A rant about rants? I don't get it. Why not just ask your questions? You might be surprised at how helpful people can be.

Cheers.

Can you install 3 OS on the same machine?!

Wayne,
Do you chain different grub instances, or just not install grub except on your primary OS?

Supper noob question, what is the super key?

Until manufacturers stop labeling this key with the Windows logo; how about we just call it the WINDOWS key?

Installation will not proceed past "who are you" step

Just remembered this happened to me too. I just started over, and didn't have the issue the second time around. I don't know why. And I don't know what I might have done different. It was just strange.

Cheers.

SOLVED -- cloning a larger drive to a smaller one

It's a bit strange for me to see these types of posts.

I've always just used GParted's copy/paste feature. After shrinking the original drive, it works just fine.

You can copy to a larger partition on the new drive, or copy to raw space and expand it after it's been copied.

Cheers.

What are your top tips for a Newbie?

Don't know if some one else has said this:

Make a back up of your boot folder. It will come in handy if grub ever borks your install.

Dual booting linux mint 10 and windows xp

If I may, I don't think this is a problem with grub. I think it's a corrupt boot.ini file. Grub seems to be doing its job.

unetbootin sucks

Sounds like OP has a sandisk cruzer, which has a partition that does load as cd from sandisk (bloatware called U3). There is a tool to remove it here: http://hk-ie.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1415

Re: Linux Mint 10 KDE RC released!

I tried this a few days back, and it doesn't seem to run too well on my laptop. I'll check it out again when the final release comes out. In the mean time I have a question/ idea... From the screenshot of the RC, the desktop folder is transparent. When I had it installed, I was disappointed to find ...

Grub grub grub...

One thing I've been contemplating is setting up grub on it's own partition. Any merit to the idea and how to would be great, as I've yet to succeed with it.

Why do new people give up on Linux?

I've quickly become a Parted Magic convert for trouble shooting myself. I'd be curious to know how to fix window boot errors as you suggest. Do you happen to have link to that info?

Thanks.

Why linux will not displace windows on the desktop

And of course there's the matter of support. Who do I call? For those of us eager to learn the ins and outs of our operating system, this isn't a huge issue, as we rely on forums like this and our ability to use google and other resources online. But this just won't do for the masses, and it will c...

Replace Ubuntu 9.04 with Mint 10

Hi, I have a Vaio Laptop with Windows Vista and Ubuntu 9.04 dual booting, how do I replace the Ubuntu 9.04 with Mint 10 without disturbing my Vista set Up? Mint's a really easy set up. If you're reformatting the Ubuntu partition, the only thing you have to make sure you do is place grub in the same...

Why linux will not displace windows on the desktop

I'm an on again off again Linux user really. But I think this time around Linux feels ready. That is to say it's polished enough, and user friendly enough for the masses. The adjustments that have to be made aren't that major. From choosing from a new catalogue of applications to accomplish given ta...

Dual Boot Help!

I'm a noob myself. I would re-install, maybe even download the iso again. I would suggest trying recovery mode, but wouldn't know where to go from there even if you're able to log in successfully that way. I hope you get it resolved though. Maybe someone more experienced will have a better suggestio...

Thanks for the welcome, and quick response.

I was reading another thread that made think:
Would using the same swap cause issues with suspend?
