Re: Mint 15 and ssh

I use Mint 15/KDE and had this same issue, and the problem was that the server's key files were non-existent. Not sure how sshd got installed without them being generated, so that might be a bug. FWIW I installed package 'ssh' with apt-get, and this installed openssh-server as a dependency; not sure...

Has your system not yet updated? I'm doing the 180 upgrades right now. They're coming from this repo:

Re: Booting LM10 KDE install disc with proprietary video dri

Excellent, glad to hear it. I've been stable since I got it working, and I must say it's way faster than Mint 8 KDE was.

Re: VLC Volume Control Not Transparent in Fullscreen Mode

Someone replied to my bug report and said that this is an Oxygen bug, so I searched on bugs.kde.org and found it here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=254473 I like that bug system... it had 51 votes, then I put in 20 of my allotted 100 (you can put at most 20 on a specific bug), and now it's a...

Re: VLC Volume Control Not Transparent in Fullscreen Mode

If you change the widget style to anything but Oxygen in the KDE system settings, the transparency bug goes away. If you go to VLC's preferences and tell it to force a specific widget style but the system's is still set to Oxygen, then it does force that style but the transparency problem doesn't go...

Re: VLC Volume Control Not Transparent in Fullscreen Mode

Yeah I tried some different skins but they didn't seem to affect the fullscreen controller much, other than making it disappear completely. I also got some crashing and stability issues from trying some skins. Then I tried fiddling with some desktop effect settings but that doesn't seem to change an...

Re: VLC Volume Control Not Transparent in Fullscreen Mode

I'm having this exact problem in Mint 10 KDE 64bit. I also noticed that the video flickers badly when the controller appears/disappears. Does anyone know of a way to make the fullscreen controller "not" transparent, like it used to be? I can't figure out how to do that. Edit: I submitted a...

Re: Booting LM10 KDE install disc with proprietary video dri

If you can go to K Menu -> Applications -> System -> Additional Drivers it should tell you if there are any alternate drivers that you could try enabling, though they'll take a while to enable as it will probably need to download them. That would work if your graphics driver is causing the crashing ...

Re: Booting LM10 KDE install disc with proprietary video dri

So I tried pulling one video card out and, combined with leaving the case open near a window and fan (it's less than 0C here at the moment) the other one managed to stay cool long enough to install the system and get the nVidia proprietary driver loaded. But one card's fan (not the one I had in the ...

Re: Booting LM10 KDE install disc with proprietary video dri

Just tried starting fancontrol; that didn't start the video card fans but I'll try to look further into this to see if it can be configured to do so. Most laptops only use one fan, so that might work for SimonTS.

Re: Booting LM10 KDE install disc with proprietary video dri

So this motherboard doesn't have any ACPI settings, unfortunately. I will attempt a few things to see what I can come up with... I don't have access to another desktop computer that I can get inside of, so I'll have to try something else. I tried 'noacpi' in compatible mode (it has 'noapic' and 'noa...

Re: Booting LM10 KDE install disc with proprietary video dri

Thank you for the good info. I edited the link in my previous comment, it should work now. My idea for the time being was to start looking into modifying the ISO with the proprietary KM and driver, and my only other idea was to try and hardwire the video card's fan. Since I only need one card to ins...

Booting LM10 KDE install disc with proprietary video drivers

After troubleshooting a problem that caused my system to freeze within a minute of booting the Mint 10 live discs (see this thread for more info: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=109&t=67003 ) I believe I've figured out what's wrong - the FOSS video card drivers aren't turning on my v...

Mint 10 KDE livecd locks up shortly after boot

This started with the RC from a week or two ago and I submitted a bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/718059 Just tried the final release a few minutes ago and the same exact problem is still happening. I'll just copy the text of the bug report: Trying out Mint 10 KDE RC install, and...

Upgrading the RC to the final release

Let's say I installed the new Mint 10 KDE RC today and kept it updated until the actual release comes out. How different would you expect this installation to be compared with one that were performed from the final release's installation media, once it comes out? Would they not be any different, hav...
