If you see before booting the countdown timer, press a key, this will open a menu, where you select it.
I did. It resulted in the same thing happening.

Installer controls are blank

So this is a bit of an odd problem. I'm trying to install Linux Mint 18 on my brother's old computer. The system boots the USB drive flawlessly and pretty quickly... loads into the GUI, and MATE starts to appear. Bottom panel appears, the controls start to appear on it... Then the controls all go bl...

Re: Cant boot Linux Mint installer.

I have two usb thumb sticks. Tried both. I also have two usb ports, the second (a usb 2 port. the first is a usb 3) also freezes, but unlike the first, the drive is still flashing. Try to check with the APIC setting disabled inside your BIOS. I looked twice just now. I can't find that setting. EDIT:...

Re: Cant boot Linux Mint installer.

I've also given kubuntu 15 a try, by the way. 1) Yes 2) Rufus 2.2 3) Not until you mentioned it. I tried the nomodeset option and got this: Kubuntu: http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo21/heroicpooch/DSC_0971_zpsdpfbm7tc.jpg Linux Mint: http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo21/heroicpooch/DSC_0972_z...

Cant boot Linux Mint installer.

I have Linux Mint 17.2 on my USB key and I just bought a new laptop to replace the one that was failing... It's an Asus F553M. I have disabled secure boot, and I have confirmed that the system runs fine in windows... then I reboot and boot from the USB key... Linux Mint freezes at the logo screen. I...

Why does this network device work under 16 but not 17?

My dad's computer has a Asus PCE-N15 Wireless networking card. The card works perfectly under Linux Mint 16.But when I install 17, it doesn't work. Reinstall 16 and it works. Install 17 again, and it fails. What I mean by that is that Linux can detect the networks. It can connect to the networks. bu...

Re: Still using Linux Mint 14, 15, or 16? Upgrade to 17 asap

Unfortunately, something you changed between 16 and 17 means that it wont work right on my dad's computer. Everything glitches out. Menus go crazy, windows turn white, etc... so we're sticking with 16 for now. I'll give 18 a try when it comes out. You could at least try Mint 13 and still have suppo...

Re: How do you track down problems with the DNS system?

It's just started happening again.

me@-hp ~ $ host www.h-.com
www.h-.com has address 31.170.179.200
www.h-.com is an alias for h-.com.
www.h-.com is an alias for h-.com.
h-.com mail is handled by 0 h-.com.

I do not even recognize that IP. That host should not be resolving to that ip.

Re: How do you track down problems with the DNS system?

Both computers get their DNS though the router which is configured to use 8.8.8.8 as it's DNS source. I'm not having a problem right now, but i ran the host command anyway and got a very unexpected result for that opendns thing. ~ $ host h-.com 8.8.8.8 Using domain server: Name: 8.8.8.8 Address: 8.8...

How do you track down problems with the DNS system?

So, I have a private domain name that's correctly set up though godaddy, it's DNS settings are pointed at my DNS server and the system works just fine on my Windows 8 PC. However, on my Linux Mint 15 Laptop, whenever I'm trying to use Firefox to browse my site, it keeps redirecting me to ww6.(Mydoma...

Re: Is it possible to do an inplace upgrade?

That seems easy enough.

What about installed packages? Is there a way to backup a list of installed packages and reinstall them after the "upgrade"? (With the exception of packages that have been discontinued or are system critical)

Is it possible to do an inplace upgrade?

My computer is currently running Linux Mint 13. When 15 comes out, I'd like to upgrade to Linux Mint 15. With other operating systems (Such as Windows), it is possible to upgrade but keep all your personal files and settings intact. Is this possible with Linux Mint? Do I just run the installer from ...

I managed to fix it myself... Turns out, the reload button is my friend :P I'm trying to set up a demo version of Crossover Games (I intend to buy it if I can get WoW to work in it) but it tells me that I'm missing a very important lib (Libc apparently). Running package manager to try and install it...

Re: nVidia Geforce GTS 250 unsupported?

Can't understand why no one has suggested you search the forum to find out exactly where to add "nomodeset" to Grub. Not on Linux right now so can't remember where it goes. Dude, I love you! I added nomodeset to the bootloader and now I have a GUI. I'm in mint! Excellent. Once in the GUI you can in...
