Golden News Opportunity
Millions of people like me must still browse with a laptop or desktop PC. For years Google News has been my second port of call after emails. I easily scrolled through my chosen categories and picked out the stories to read more. Now I am forced by Google to view the news story headlines in a new, s...

Re: csv json and javascript choice
Thank you xenopeck - I will make a very cut down version of my data and try some experiments with your code.
With my simple searches, I will be searching for a value in one column and then displaying an abbreviated version of the row it appears in

I am providing an html menu-driven and standalone archive of an archaeological excavation project. Basic data and finds records are stored in an Excel spreadsheet which is included in the archive. It has 30 columns and 1250 rows. The spreadsheet can of course be searched and filtered etc. but only e...

Yes - that's the one. Looks like it is not supported for Mint 20 with Python 3mikeflan wrote: ⤴Mon Jan 18, 2021 3:53 pm That one is still in Software Manager for us LM 19.3 users. You can get it here:

Mint 20 linkchecker
For the first time since stepping up to Mint 20 from 17.3 I tried to use linkchecker on a set of linked HTML files stored on my Laptop. It seems that this useful tool is no longer found as available to me. Please can anyone help me get it back?

Re: How to recover a corrupt USB stick [SOLVED - sort of: it's beyond rescue]
I've just come on this thread as a last result having a 1TB USB which refused to mount with a superblock problem. I had decided to reformat and say goodbye to my 600G of video recordings :( I tried one last thing using gparted. I reduced the size of the single EXT4 partition. Having completed the ta...

Re: Mint 20 - New printer/scanner
Thanks Kato - You have persuaded me to order a cleaning kit. It could be worth a try. In view of the high cost of ink refills I normally try to get as much out as possible which probably contributed to my problem. It annoys me to see the coloured inks disappearing when I might only need one colour p...

Mint 20 - New printer/scanner
My second all-in-one HP printer has failed to give me legible printouts so I am thinking it's time for no.3. I am not worried about printing colour photos and use monochrome as much as possible. I need a USB/wifi scanner and printer that will have no problems with being unused for weeks at a time. I...

Re: At last 17.3 to 20
WOW - I'm impressed. I deliberately chose to reformat and it all worked fine. The only point iI hesitated was when I had to choose the partitions I did not see how that was to be done. So I searched and found I needed to select the partition and then click Change - 1st for root, next for /home and l...

Re: My time has come :(
Thanks for the encouragement folks. I downloaded and ran LM20 Cinnamon DVD on my 8 year old Dell. Everything looked fine as I browsed the Web and my local network. I need to backup my home directory and then go for a new install. I have so many packages/apps downloaded over the years I've probably f...

My time has come :(
I've been a Mint fan ever since my first install which was Mint 10 I think. I've stayed on 17.3 since upgrade to 18 was not possible. This last year I have experienced a few minor quirks but nothing so serious to abandon my much loved collection of apps. With increasing things I can't upgrade or ins...

Thanks very much Pjotr. I'm sure I've tried that before and it didn't work.

Re: Wifi not working
Surprising last minute progress. I ran modified version of code from this thread - https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=273382 and the wifi levels increased drastically and I connected without reboot. sudo modprobe -r rtl8723be sudo modprobe rtl8723be ant_sel=1 iwlist scan | egrep -i 'SSID|l...

Re: Wifi not working
Thanks for the good advice Pjotr Sadly my time has run out. It took me two days to get dual boot working and I've promised my wife today will be the last. Also my forgetful attempt to install the new driver with secure boot enabled means that win10 no longer works in that mode. My only hope is to ge...

Wifi not working {SOLVED}
Hi - sorry to butt in - I'm on the 3rd day of struggling with the same issue . I ran the RTLwifi_new driver commands as show but did it omitting switching secure boot off. So I would like to install again but it will not let me . I need to uninstall first but no idea how to. However it may have been...

Re: Urgent - Secure Boot Problem (SOLVED)
Thanks Pierre = I thought I had sorted it when my wifi finally connected. I browsed for 15 minutes and rolled up my ethernet cable. When I later returned it could not get internet but was still connected to wifi - all very frustrating :( After that it would not reconnect to the wifi again. Today is ...
