HI GeneC,
testing it is then! Suppose I'll stick it in a kemu session and see how it fares for a couple of weeks. Will do a dd tonight and take it from there.
Many thanks for all your help!

Re: LMDE to Sid
Many thanks Wayne. I see he refers to zerozero's posts as well. It was simple in the olden days without this new-fangled mint-mirror business...

[SOLVED] - LMDE to Sid
Hi, 'cos I'm running KDE I'd like to move to Sid instead of LMDE seeing that my DE of choice is not supported. I have a couple of questions about my proposed move. 1. Simply enabling a Sid repo in my sources.list does not seem to suffice as the LMDE repo is still scanned. Do I have to uninstall mint...

Re: KDE and UP8
Thank you.
I am aware of SolydK. However, having gone through so much pain I am loathed to give up a perfectly good system which over the years has been built up to suit my exact needs. Or are they similar enough to just copy over my existing /etc/ to a SolydK install?
Hm, me wonders...

KDE and UP8
Uff, that was quite some ride! To get KDE running under UP7 was funky enough but what UP8 took five years off my life ;) I had to switch between debian stable, testing und UP8 repos to get everything going again. What surprised me most was that during the original UP8 upgrade it attempted to remove ...

Re: Cinnamon disaster after UP8
I wonder whether you followed the proper upgrade procedure as detailed by update pack info: Update Pack 8 2014.02.04 Update libpng12-dev first if it is installed If you have libpng12-dev installed, you need to update it first before proceeding with the upgrade: apt install libpng12-dev ATI legacy us...

Re: kde-full breakages
Nice one monsta
Many thanks for the explanation and what to do about it.
EDIT:
I enabled the testing repo from Debian and installed KDE 4.11. The only hiccup was kdenetwork including kopete but as I'm using psi I didn't have to go to the unstable repos.

kde-full breakages [SOLVED]
Hi, I've installed kde-full, have removed previous instances of ~/.kde* and fired up KDM. Upon successful login KDE starts but the systray is broken. Icons are layered above each other. I then moved the main taskbar to the left vertical side of the monitor and the systray icons go in single file reg...

Re: UP7 ERROR pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks
Thanks very much for your reply. Did the reinstall as you suggested but no improvement. I'm still getting the same error message. The problem occurs on my Thinkpad T61 only - the update went through fine on my desktop (using the http://tux.rainside.sk/ mirror). Will experiment further and am always ...

Re: veetle woes
Update: I started FF from CLI to see whether I'd get any further and indeed saw a message about libvdpau pop up. I reverted back to nvidia, made sure libvdpau1 was installed (which it was), created a new xorg.conf and fired FF up again. Alas, veetle still hangs but now I don't get any messages on th...

veetle woes
Hi, I've got a desktop running 64-bit lmde and a T61 laptop with the same. My problem is that veetle runs on one but not the other. On both I have the same setup, i.e. dpkg -l |grep flas ii flashplugin-nonfree 1:3.1 amd64 Adobe Flash Player - browser plugin ii mint-flashplugin-11 11.0.d1.98 amd64 Ad...

Re: LMDE KDE
Damn, I just recently installed LMDE and put a KDE on it but didn't keep any notes (do I ever!). I do remember it being a bit tricky having to first install the packages apt was moaning about. But don't be fooled, you can install KDE and it is all there - I didn't fiddle with my sources.list

Re: Is this war, with privilege? Not on MY comp!!!
Anybody interested in solving this at all or is it going to be a ranting session.
Not that I mind the latter but I wouldn't want no further part in it.

Re: Is this war, with privilege? Not on MY comp!!!
to the op: Which file are you trying to manipulate? If it is in your home and you do not have write access then you probably messed up rights by doing stuff as root in ~ - something you should not really be doing unless you understand the UNIX rights system. If the file you are trying to manipulate ...

Re: need to install LMDE
Hi,
I hope you are aware that LMDE follows the rolling relase model and that as such there are no different versions. I suggest googling "rolling release distro" in case this doesn't answer your question fully.

Hi blacksilva,
that is very kind of you, thank you very much!
A simple question: is there any point trying a new ROM if 2.3 is going to come out for my phone soonish?
