Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

I think they are referring to the "common belief" that ubuntu users are "the windows users who came to linux" or "the ones who can't handle a real distro" etc. Ubuntu also is the most popular and most widely supported via 3rd parties (ie almost everyone provides a .deb package if they provide a linu...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

See here's the problem. I could care less what you think of Manjaro, me or anything else but the comments you are making are misrepresenting things for OTHER people in THIS thread who want to consider Manjaro as an alternative. You obviously went into that forum with a chip already on your shoulder....

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

Well after all this talk about Manjaro I decided to put it in a VM to see how it compared with neon and have been impressed. Although officially Manjaro has dropped 32 bit manjaro32.org has picked up the slack using arch linux 32 bit as their upstream so your older hardware can still find an install...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

Didn't you install it? No, I'm not going to install it if the live session does not work properly. Even if it works correctly when installed that does not help when I need to boot a client machine to a Linux live session to fix Windows problems, or manipulate corrupted files, or simply copy user da...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

I've been running KDE Neon for about the last month on a couple of machines after reading about mint dropping kde. In all honestly I haven't really had anything I miss. The kde5 functionality seems to perform just fine. I cloned an image once I got a base system I liked and have used that to setup s...

gtk icons corrupted in systray under LM17 xfce

As the screenshot below shows, icons for apps that use gtk are showing up as corrupted images in the systray while others such as bittorrent sync, variety, the network manager are displaying correctly. This is on an acer aspire laptop using a SIS chipset for video and it's been like that since the i...

Re: "changes could not be applyed; fix broken packages first

it usually stems from a version conflict somewhere. Either from a repository that is for the wrong distro version (eg: Mint 9 - 10, Lucid - Maverick), or an app downloaded from the net, or even a deb package. They may be missing or requiring a dependency/file/library that conflicts with an installe...

Re: "changes could not be applyed; fix broken packages first

What do you do if synaptic and apt both are working fine and return nothing when "fix packages" is executed but the flippin update manager says to fix broken packages first and won't let you install updates?

Re: Installing linux mint on hp pavilion laptop with win7

I have a HP G72-B60us laptop running Mint 10. If your laptop is setup the same way then your problem is this.....HP creates a "HP_TOOLS", "RECOVERY", and "SYSTEM" partition in addition to the partition for windows. Linux needs at least 2 partitions for Swap space and the linux system and there is no...
