Re: Customizing TERMINAL: Help

One year ago I was wondering about the same... According to my notes: Edit /etc/bash.bashrc: gksu gedit /etc/bash.bashrc For the variable PS1, replace "'${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\[\033[01;31m\]\h\[\033[01;34m\] \W \$\[\033[00m\] '" with "PS1='\u@\h \W \$ '" Save the file...

Re: Disable fsck on btrfs

You could try to edit fstab (carefully !!!) from the root terminal (for example with nano): nano /etc/fstab The last number at the end of each btrfs line should be 0 (which indicates that fsck should not check those filesystems). In nano, you can save with Ctrl + O followed by <Enter> and quit with ...

Re: Dropbox removed and cannot be reinstalled after upgrade

gavinhc, thank you very much for taking the time to explain the problem :) What I did was commenting the mint repo, and trying to install nautilus-dropbox, but it still complained about broken dependencies. Then in Synaptic I found another repo, a maverick one which - I do not know how - was enabled...

[SOLVED] Dropbox removed and cannot be reinstalled

Hello All, I'd need some help with getting Dropbox to work again :( I am using LMDE with the testing repos, and just updated the whole system, getting Gnome3. In the process, Dropbox had to be uninstalled (otherwise gnome-core would have been removed), and now I cannot reinstall it. - If I want to i...

Re: LMDE updates

The general opinion is that on a rolling release you need to install all updates becasue sooner or later it will cause dependency problems if you do not do so. Therefore in the Debian version of MintUpdate, there are no levels. You can apply all of the updates, just check the list of packages that w...

That's brilliant, I like both the layout and the content very much.
I always thought there should be a guide for LMDE too, thank you borgio3.

Re: Triple booting - best of all worlds

My main motivation for a triple boot was that I could not decide which one I wanted to use. And this way I almost never worry about borking them, so GRUB is the only thing I am really cautious with :D I originally wanted to setup everything in a way that I can move comfortably between them: having t...

Re: Triple booting - best of all worlds

I too have a triple boot system (Ubuntu/OpenSuse/LMDE), but I cannot even really use 2 OSes. I mean, do you regularly boot all of them? LMDE being my main system, have not seen any of the others for some months now... Now I do not even think of using them because of the lots of updates I would have ...

Re: Dual boot not booting LMDE

Hi, are you sure this grub.cfg is really on sda2??? Is this the grub of the main Mint version? Do you have a separate boot partition? The part you copied here is for the recovery mode (boots to konsole). Is there another part for the normal mode? What happens if you run sudo update-grub from the Mai...

Re: The type of questions asked here seems troubling

Oh and you can export your Firefox bookmarks to a file from Windows then you can import from that file on Linux. If Mint became discontinued (and I doubt this happened anytime soon), you can find other similar and less similar distros and most of the things can work the same way on those too. This i...

Re: The type of questions asked here seems troubling

Hi forumerker, there are a lot of questions and problems just because this is a support forum. Poeple rarely open a topic just to tell the community how great Mint is (sometimes they do :) ) Just take a look at a Windows forums, there too are some quite scaring topics :D You will not have all the is...

Re: uninstall firefox

Not sure where but somewhere someone wrote that you have to have at least one browser.
So you could try to install the one you intend to use, then uninstall the others.

That's strange, I've got a fully updated LMDE tracking Incoming, with Mintinstall v7.3.3, no problems here.

Re: Software and Update Manager stopped working

Hello! Not sure if it's the same but recently I too had problems with the update manager on LMDE. I would suggest you to read this blog post: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1781 about the new update pack system that has just been introduced to LMDE. You should install the package mintupdate-debian (wh...
