Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?

I'm a pretty advanced Windows user. Have been using Windows since -97. I've been experimenting with linux for the last 4 years. All I can say is that MS is very good at embracing the n00b computer user. Apple is more so. I've been trying to get my non-computer friends on to Linux but it is still TOO...

Re: Odd "Fix Broken Packages" Issue

I was recommended to try sudo apt-get dist-upgrade. After I did that all hell broke loose. Now when I boot up, it seems that my graphic card isn't configured. I don't know what to do?

No "graphics" after update!?

Hi.
I installed Linux Mint KDE today and after I did the sudo apt-get dist-upgrade thing it only start up in text mode. I haven't got a clue how to configure my graphics card in the terminal. What do I do? I seem to be able to boot up in a previous installation though.

Making music with Linux?

I want to make music within the Linux environment. I have Linux Mint 10 and a MIDI keyboard. Now what? What software do I need to make some sweet techno beats? :D

Re: Switching from Ubuntu to Mint?

Well, I just copied my music and pictures over to my external hard drive and did a new install of Mint. My browser settings and bookmarks are already backed up using some different browser plug-ins anyway. I found that that was my easiest solution in the end since I already have my personal files on...

Re: Switching from Ubuntu to Mint?

I haven't got a separate partition but I wonder if I can just copy my Home-folder to an external hard drive and then copy it back after installation?

Switching from Ubuntu to Mint?

Hi.
I am currently using Ubuntu 10.10 and want to make a switch to Mint. How do I go about it in the simplest way possible? Can I keep all my files or are they destroyed in the installation process?
