Re: Problems with synaptic

It seems that mint-configuration-kde has something wrong with it. I don't use KDE much. I have a similar problem but get the following: phil@Athlon240 ~ $ sudo apt-get -f install [sudo] password for phil: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done 0 upgr...

Re: HDMI Audio Issues

I have a similar problem with my Gigabyte GA-MA785 motherboard using the built in on board AMD audio 4250 until upgrading from 3.2.0-26 during a accidental kernel upgrade. Everything else worked fine, and has been since first installing Mint 13 on 07-14-12. I suffered a dozen false starts trying to ...

Re: Mint 13 : Cinnamon crashes after latest update

Problem solved. Installer did not check for previous install grub location even though I checked the use previous installation setting. Grub had to be installed on a different location than the drive the install was on.

Re: Mint 13 : Cinnamon crashes after latest update

My XFCE 13 also crashed after updates a few days ago. After rebooting sqlite was not working so Firefox, Thunderbird, System Monitor and other programs quit working properly. Also booting stopped for a long pause right after entering username and password. After a while it would boot and finally fin...

LM13 Xfce loses window manager periodically

I am not sure if this is a bug or something I did wrong, but at randm times xfwm4 quits running. I fix it by running "xfwm4 --replace" on a terminal and everything is o.k. again for a while. Any ideas??

Re: Do you run 64-bit or 32 bit Mint, and why.

I run 32bit because 64 bit Brother print drivers for my older (about 4 years and wide format) printers are not available to satisfactorily run 64 bit. I also run Win XP 32 on all of my computers so really can't make good use of 64 bit yet. No hurry though, because I still run many old engineering pr...

Re: [SOLVED] LMDE Update Pack 4 => broken computer

I had a worse experience. Could not use Mint install. My computer just went into a endless something. Then tried sudo apt-get update. Got through that o.k. Then started sudo apt-get upgrade. Seemed to go o.k. Then it did a check of of some 750 files for update logs and I got two screens full of erro...

You might try booting into recovery mode. At root command prompt type: nvidia-xconfig

It might solve your problem.

Re: All browsers and software manager are crashing

Same thing is happening on my test computer running LMDE Xfce update pack 3 on the computer listed in the signature as Athlon 4400e. This computer has been running perfectly for over a year and just started having these problems. Today I had to take out the bios battery to discharge the bios memory ...

My time-admin is stuck so I can not close the lock, nor can I reinstall ntp. Where it went, I do not know. I am using Mint9 Xfce on this computer. My other computers using Mint10 and LMDE are o.k.

Re: Want to change font color for desktop

Thanks a lot, I think we will solve this problem sooner or later. There are no themes in LMDE XFCE that accomplish a white label for icons on a black screen. So I will patch in the changes to .gtkrc-2.0 after I have tried Gnome-color-chooser. We are watching a storm just off shore to see how much ra...

Want to change font color for desktop

In the last few days I installed LMDE 2011-8 XFCE. I am 85 years old and cannot see as well as I used to. The default colors on the default desktop are very difficult, so I go to Desktop settings/Background check no Image and black for color as I have been doing for years. There is only one problem....

I ran sensor-detect on an installation of LMDE 201109 and found no sensors or fans, however, running Mint9 on the same computer produced a list of working sensors and fans.

I don't know if my problem is related, but I installed LMDE 201109 64 bit yesterday. The live DVD detected my Brother MFC-5890CN network printer perfectly and printed test page. After install I cannot get printer to work. Tried downloading from Brother and that did not work because I kept getting an...

Re: Has anyone gotten DraftSight CAD to run on LMDE 64bit?

I got Draftsight working on 32 bit Mint XFCE but it did not work as good as CMS Intellicad on
Windows XP and I had work to do, so I abandoned it. And Draftsight costs more than CMS Intellicad.

I am not sure if this is the place to post my problem, but here goes. One of my computers, an Intel Atom 610 that has been running LMDE main with Xfce for more than a year recently started having a problem booting after a big batch of updates including grub. The error is from grub "grub_devmod6...
