Re: Minimum System Requirements

2GB of RAM should be enough but with many applications opened at the same time you could run out of RAM, the best solution would be to add more RAM. Use the top command (or htop) to check why your system hangs, make sure you have a SWAP partition (or SWAP file) and check if some application is using...

Podes correr "gksu mintinstall &" no terminal ou carregas em Alt-F2 e escreves "gksu mintinstall".

Isso parece um problema de drivers ou a tua grafica onboard não não funciona bem com o Cinnamon.

Re: Installing to older laptop system: non pae

Linux Mint has another option that works without PAE, the i486 kernel in LMDE.

The last LMDE XFCE edition was very light but LMDE MATE with XFCE or LXDE on top should also be light.

Re: Linux 8 Helena: Update Manager

I used to install Mint 12 LXDE because it's light and is available as CD. It's also easy to upgrade to Mint 13 with LXDE however, in your case using Plop is probably the best option as long as you can select a light enough recent Mint edition.

Re: Minimal system requirement for a specified Linux Mint?

Mint 13 XFCE LTS could be a good option. It's not as light as Mint 12 LXDE but Mint 13 is supported until 2017.

O Cinnamon requere aceleração gráfica em condições para funcionar bem. Se não a tiveres é preferivel usar MATE.

Re: Tela Preta

Qual é o desktop que estás a usar?

Experimenta usar a opção nomodeset no boot do kernel.

Re: Which is "lighter"? XFCE or Cinnamon?

Just not seeing the significance of a DE's window manager that runs in 50mb or 150mb.. On my 8GB of RAM machine I don't care either but on my 1GB netbook I can tell the difference. On my 512MB machine that 100MB (sometimes more) savings is enough to allow me to use Firefox instead of Midori and on ...

Re: Which is "lighter"? XFCE or Cinnamon?

I also feel that Mint 15 XFCE is faster and more responsive than Mint 15 Cinnamon despite the RAM usage. On Mint 15 the Mate edition got faster and the XFCE slower than in the previous versions so now I use MATE for computers that can't run Cinnamon properly instead of XFCE. Also, the MATE version a...

Probably drivers problems and flash problems but your CPU is slow by today standards.

Use the top command to find out what is using your CPU when the computer feels slow.

Installing the LXDE desktop on top of another Mint edition is a good idea and gives you the opportunity to learn to configure the desktop.

Re: Kernel Panic Crash

MATE is not superior to Cinnamon, they are both good desktops but Cinnamon does have one extra requirement, 3D acceleration (native or emulated). If your system failure is in some way related to the 3D acceleration, try MATE, it should work like it did to me. If not, you will have one more error mes...

Re: Getting 1024x768 working on Asus 1005-HA

There is a solution, I use the following for 1280x768: xrandr --output LVDS1 --panning 1280x768 --scale 1.25x1.28 You need to adapt to your needs. Works for Mint 15 MATE, probably for others too. You can follow the issue here, post #62 has the solution: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg...

Re: Kernel Panic Crash

If it's a BIOS problem you should check if a newer BIOS for that motherboard/computer exists and if so you should upgrade the BIOS. Before that, I would try to upgrade the kernel or change to MATE or other Mint edition because a failed BIOS upgrade could brick your computer.

Re: Install on HPmini 311c !

That CPU is slow so could be that or some driver problem. What Mint edition are you using? For that CPU I would probably avoid KDE and Cinnamon if the 3D driver is not working properly.

Re: Kernel Panic Crash

I don't know what is causing the problem, could be Cinnamon, the 3D emulation or something with the kernel that didn't happen with MATE. Cinnamon was slower than MATE anyway so never tried Cinnamon again on that computer and because it as a live system there are no logs to look at...
