Re: Help with constructing Linux command

How about this: rm -v -r ~/Downloads/*.exe *.jpg *.nfo *.txt *.torrent No need to create a file or make anything executable or something; just one simple command to execute. You can use the memory of the terminal (tap the "up" arrow key on your keyboard) for repeating it at future occasions. Oh, and...

Re: Acer E11 No Shutdown

Please generate an overview of your system like this: - Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window) ; - make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines; - Copy/paste this command into the terminal: inxi -Fxz (if you type: the letter F is a capital letter) Press En...

I AM running AV software
Don't do that. It has no use on desktop Linux, and even diminishes your security:

Good! Progress.

Re: Current Version Of Graphics Driver Available

Why would you want a newer driver version, if your current driver version performs well and is being kept secure with security updates? Sometimes people want a newer version of an application, because they need a particular new feature that's only available in the newer application version. That's a...

Is Mint 19 generally slower than earlier versions? Has something important changed?
To the best of my knowledge: no and no.

I'll report it to Clem myself. What's the best way to report it: Launchpad (official Ubuntu way) or IRC (or both)?
Neither. github ;)

I don't think 19.2 should ship with mate-screensaver without the fix.

Are there any other big security bugs in Mint that have been known for months and not patched?
Unpatched security bugs like this one? Doubtlessly. Big ones, i.e. posing a large threat in real life? Not very likely.

One tip: I've discovered a typo:

upgrade

apply available ugprades
Thanks, will fix for the PPA. You know I don't do official Mint anymore. ;)
Unfortunately, yes.

Re: mintupdate-cli manpages

I did add a proper man page for 19.2 though. Cool! I just tested it in a VM with the daily builds repo for 19.2 enabled. Much better; this was sorely missed. :) Reminds me I still need to update the man pages for mintupdate and mintsources in my PPA - so much has changed. ;) One tip: I've discovere...

Re: Update Manager failing

I used synaptic to install update manager and dependencies, opened update manager refreshed, still nothing. Re...

I'm think I'm gonna try to install GC in a virtualbox, change some settings, then uninstall and see what happens

What's the philosophy behind this?
Mostly Ubuntu not wanting to support it on all possible hardware combinations and deciding that suspend to RAM is good enough.
Which it is.
