Re: Two Update Managers in Mint 21.3?

Having two update managers doesn't hurt; it doesn't break anything. But it's confusing. I remember from when I struggled with the dependencies of ttf-mscorefonts-installer, that there were some annoying loops that I had to break loose from. Unfortunately it's rather long ago, so I don't clearly reme...

Re: suggestions for increasing readability?

Hi Teach them to use: Ctrl + Mouse Scroll Wheel to zoom in/out Works in web browser and file managers. Yes, and simply Ctrl + and Ctrl - works as well. Do remember to exclude images from the resizing (because of distortion): First make the Firefox menu bar visible: Firefox panel - right-click on th...

Re: suggestions for increasing readability?

Xfce is a bit more limited than Cinnamon, in this respect. But the increase of font size is the best option, which means that you do have to experiment a bit to find the "right" size.

Cinnamon offers these options:

Re: Cannot get the grub menu

Much easier to edit /etc/default/grub to show grub menu at every boot for just 2 seconds. Surely you can waste 2 seconds at boot to save a lot of palaver. Good point. Personally, I always set it at 5 seconds. However, it's good to know that there is a way of reliably getting the Grub menu to show j...

They're working on it (Mint gets its kernels straight from Ubuntu): https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2024-2201 Keep calm and carry on.... Security flaws are discovered (and fixed) on a daily basis. There's always a time gap between discovery and fix. Absolute security does not exist on this earth. Ev...

Re: Cannot get the grub menu

Look, this is getting a bit silly.... The only way to reliably get the Grub menu to show just once , is what I've described. Your method decidedly does not (and was defined wrongly in the first place). Finally: I'm not going to debate this any further, because I've more productive things to do with ...

Re: Cannot get the grub menu

Repeatedly tap the escape key during boot to bring up the grub menu for an UEFI boot computer. That won't give you the Grub menu, but a Grub command prompt. It depends on the timing of when you do it whether or not you get the grub menu or the grub prompt. If you do it too late, you will get the gr...

Repeatedly tap the escape key during boot to bring up the grub menu for an UEFI boot computer. That won't give you the Grub menu, but a Grub command prompt. At the Grub prompt, you then need to type the word normal and hit Enter. Then immediately start tapping the Esc key again repeatedly, until th...

Re: Updater not updating, please help!

As Ounce says.

By the way: your system will probably perform better with a kernel from a newer series. Do this also:
Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels
Install the latest kernel of the 6.5 series. Then reboot.

Re: Errors on boot

You probably need the 6.5.x kernel anyway (even if it doesn't help for your current problem): Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels Install the latest kernel of the 6.5 series . Then reboot. Furthermore, this might take care of at least some of the boot errors: https://easylinuxtipsproject.bl...

OK, the BIOS has now been updated to A26. Was this supposed to fix the problem (it didn't), Too bad. It might have. And having an up to date BIOS is good in any case. or just get us on the same page for the next step? Worth a try, although the chance is small: Update Manager - panel: View - Linux k...

Re: Two Update Managers in Mint 21.3?

Indeed it's not right. My guess: you've unknowingly pulled in the Ubuntu Software Updater, possibly as a consequence of installing the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package (that's a known quirk of that package with Microsoft fonts). If so, then this is a solution: remove the Ubuntu Updater (update-noti...

We can use the terminal output of:

You can even make a picture of the terminal output on your phone, post it on postimages.org and give us the link.
