How do you manage notifications in Cinnamon e.g. how do you switch on / off specific notifications? Like notifications from Facebook or YouTube for example. :?
You probably mean Web Push notifications. Those are being handled by your web browser (Firefox, Chrome, Chromium...).

Re: Font Manager Destroyed a complete Linux Mint System!!

I posted here my experience in the hope to save some people from frustration. Good idea; hopefully it does. I was negatively surprised by the behavior of the maintainer who is in my opinion the main responsible to solve the problem. That's incorrect. The upstream developer of font-manager can only ...

Re: All Apps Experiencing random freezes

Ahem, this link says nothing else than this is wrong. It also says this: Now check whether it works, with the following terminal command: cat /proc/swaps Press Enter. If all has gone well, you should receive a report about one or more /dev/zram "partitions". zRam is active then; no need for further...

Re: All Apps Experiencing random freezes

OK, two things:

1. Try the latest kernel of the 4.4 series. Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels. After installing it, make sure you boot from it (it's under the header Advanced in the Grub bootloader menu).

2. Free some disk space on your root partition. Currently, it's much too full.

Re: Update manager shewing levels not requested

In short: the default behaviour of Update Manager has been altered intentionally. In my opinion: improved. :)

You might find this article interesting, that I've written about (understanding and) tweaking Update Manager in Linux Mint 18.3:

Re: Timeshift disk full

You should be able to remove Timeshift snapshots from within Timeshift itself. Is the partial snapshot visible in the Timeshift window? That should create a lot of free space, because Timeshift is notorious for using up huge amounts of disk space.... It eats gigabytes for breakfast. Next t...

Re: Font Manager Destroyed a complete Linux Mint System!!

Font Manager (font-manager) is a package in the Universe repo. Universe is controlled not by Mint nor even by Canonical, but by the Ubuntu community.... In this case the Ubuntu developers. You might inform them: ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Note: always remain polite and friendly, otherwise...

No need to install anything at all, then: Minix is built into your Intel CPU.

Re: All Apps Experiencing random freezes

Please generate an overview of your system like this: - Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window) ; - make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines; - copy/paste this command into the terminal: inxi -Fxz (if you type: the letter F is a capital letter) - Press ...

One of the *buntu's, and if those would cease to be as well: probably openSUSE.

Nasty "feature from hell" in Firefox....

This should completely disable those horrible push notifications, so that Firefox won't ask your permission again:

Re: Mint xfce is slow

Newer kernel, not older.... Mint 18.3 is probably simply unfit, because probably too old for that brand new hardware. Try the daily build of Ubuntu Mate 18.04: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-mate/daily-live/current/bionic-desktop-amd64.iso (note: still unstable and experimental) ..... and switch t...

I can hardy imagine, that in an environment at work people do not have to create and store files, e-mails and whatever, which survive a reboot.

Seems hardly to be doable.
It can be done with the guest session, plus modification by means of a skeleton account....
