Re: Why go with Linux Mint Debian Edition 3 for the first time?

Update Manager I think will suggest upgrade to HWE kernel once it becomes available. I really think you're mistaken here.... That has never happened in the Mint 17 or 18 series. Only Mint 17.2, 17.3, 18.2 and 18.3 had HWE kernels. Mint 17/17.1 and Mint 18/18.1 never got those; they remain on an LTS...

Re: Why go with Linux Mint Debian Edition 3 for the first time?

Linux Mint 19 default uses Ubuntu's hardware enablement (HWE) kernels, which means roughly every 6 months you get a new upstream kernel release so that your system gains compatibility with new hardware. Regressions for older hardware can happen though are rare (you're not getting a bleeding edge ke...

In your case I would use just virustotal which uses 64 scanning engines (ClamAV is one of them)

Sometimes the mods split off an off topic part of a thread, and turn that into a new thread. Which I find rather convenient.... :)

Re: Mint 19 Xfce typing delay

Strange.... Try this:

1. Disable all visual effects in Xfce:
https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... ts-in-Xfce
(item 5.3, right column)

2. Update your kernel to the latest one of the 4.15 series (-34). Then reboot.

Re: Suspend Issue (Mint 19): hangs when suspending, but ONLY when Intel-GPU is used

That's typically something that might be fixed by a kernel update or by a BIOS update. First check the support section of the Acer website for a BIOS update and when available, install it. When no avail, you might try the 4.18 kernel, by means of the reliable Canonical Kernel Team PPA: https://sites...

Re: Just say NO to Mint19

That might have been the case a few decades ago but these days most consider "Linux" to be the general ecosystem (not the desktop) of which the kernel is only one part. Whether it's technically correct or not that is the general assumption. Farfetched non-argument. Admitting that you were entirely ...

Re: Just say NO to Mint19

His argument shows the power of marketing and presentation though, doesn't it? Android is just another Linux distro same as Ubuntu or Linux Mint, but because Google managed to hide the Linux core so well from the average user behind that GUI the (uninformed) consumer perceives it as something else....

Yes Linux is now a good enough in general replacement for PC's and laptops but it's slow development meant it fell down when fast change was needed for capturing the new tablet and smartphone markets... it completely lost to Android
Nonsense. Android *is* Linux. It has a Linux kernel.

Re: NVIDIA.run recognizes Nouveau no matter what

PS: You actually have no idea what you are talking about. I was updating from 390.47 because I noticed a resource leak, and wouldn't you know it, the exact version I was looking for at the start has a patch for this error. Bollocks again. In your first post you stated that the official 390.48 (not ...

Re: NVIDIA.run recognizes Nouveau no matter what

I did actually have need for it, thanks. :) Please stick to helping people in the support section instead of telling me what I did wrong. The point is that I should be able to get it working in the first place, and I have no need for nouveau. I told you what you did wrong, so you can rectify your u...

My Linux Mint came with 390.48 NVIDIA which is fine
So you should have stuck to that. There's no sense in upgrading a driver without real need.

Re: Multi Frage

Wenn drin, klicke links mal was herum; man kan allerhande Sachen ändern.
