Re: Two Update Managers in Mint 21.3?

Indeed it's not right. My guess: you've unknowingly pulled in the Ubuntu Software Updater, possibly as a consequence of installing the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package (that's a known quirk of that package with Microsoft fonts). If so, then this is a solution: remove the Ubuntu Updater (update-noti...

Re: Realtek WiFi driver won't install.

We can use the terminal output of:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxxpmrz

Code: Select all

rfkill list all

Code: Select all

iwconfig

Code: Select all

lsusb

Code: Select all

lspci
You can even make a picture of the terminal output on your phone, post it on postimages.org and give us the link.

Don't do that. It's just a tiny package anyway.

Re: "Docked" laptop needs the lid open to work properly

Your laptop is running on a very much outdated BIOS: version A13, whereas the latest for your machine is A26. Update your BIOS and test. Note that you might need to install Windows temporarily, for performing the BIOS update. This link might be helpful: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downl...

Re: LTS Upgrading: from Virginia 21.3 to Wilma 22

Why not simply give it a try? You can always do a normal installation if things go sideways. True. But your system might still be less good after a "dirty" in-place upgrade, than it would have been with a fresh clean installation. Without you noticing it. Because of things like left-over ...

Boot from the previous 5.15.x kernel and delete the 6.5.x kernel (Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels).

Please generate an overview of your system like this: - Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window) ; - Make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines; - Copy/paste this command into the terminal: inxi -Fxxxpmrz (if you type: the letter F is a capital letter, and...

There are, because the entire underlying Ubuntu codebase is involved. In such cases I always recommend a fresh clean upgrade. Cleaner, more reliable and even much faster.

Re: Misleading ad when creating a new account

That's an unfortunate experience. But you'll have to realize that ads usually come through a channel over which the website owner has little control. The channel pays the website owner for the advertising space and selects the ads (which is often done by means of an automatic process). So it's not a...

Re: kernel: usb 1-4: device descriptor read/8, error -71

Do these two things:

1. Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels
Install the latest kernel of the 6.5 series. Then reboot.

2. Decrease the log level by one notch:

Weird.... Well, whatever you do, do NOT launch Synaptic with sudo. If you just did that again: repair the damage again (see my previous message in this thread).

First do this:
https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... t.html#ID4
(item 4)

Then this:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Then this:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install --reinstall synaptic
Finally, try launching Synaptic normally.
