Re: A serious problem for security enthusiasts

That's not good. :(

Hopefully an easy hack can be found to disable this. Anyway I'm glad that I use Firefox for my general browsing and Chrome only for specific purposes....

Re: Keuze notebook

Re: Hardware acceleration on a very old laptop

Do a clean fresh installation of Mint 21.3 in order to get fully rid of the kisak horrors. Then apply these safe speed tweaks:

Worth a try: make sure the BIOS is updated to its latest version and then try the latest 6.8.x kernel, like this:

Biggest effect will be replacing that spinner disk by an SSD.

What also will help:

Re: Almost fresh linux mint instalation is taking up 700 GB

It won't hurt to try a kernel from a newer series:
Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels
Install the latest kernel of the 6.5 series. Then reboot and test.

For the rest, see my previous message.

Re: Almost fresh linux mint instalation is taking up 700 GB

First some preparation: make sure your BIOS is updated to the latest version of it. Then trim your logs again. Then launch Timeshift, delete all previous snapshots and create a new Timeshift snapshot. Finally, try booting with the parameter pci=noaer . Gist of the how-to: xed admin:///etc/default/gr...

Tame your logs:

(items 10, 11 and 12)

Then investigate what causes this massive spamming.

Dump that non-official Liquorix kernel and try the latest semi-official 6.8.x kernel, like this:

Re: No grub menu on dual boot/ssd

Good to hear that it worked! :) You've created a sensible setup, by the way. You can prevent annoying problems by giving Windows its own disk. The problem was just a matter of one extra step: informing Mint, or rather Grub, about the presence of Windows on that other disk. Can you mark this topic as...

Re: Using upstream (Debian Sid) repository?

As karlchen said. Heck, it's even difficult to convert Xubuntu 24.04 into Mint 22 Xfce, because of dependency hell (been there, done that: I did succeed in the end, but it was a bumpy road). And Xubuntu is even closer related to Mint than Debian. A Frankenstein system has several disadvantages; one ...
