Re: The update frequency of Mint's Firefox: an increasing security concern?

So I assume from those comments that using the current manually downloaded .tar.bz2 direct from Mozilla gives me the most up-to-date version that is possible,. Am I correct or could a compiled binary or .deb from Mjnt or the Mkzilla ppa be more up to date? One may expect the Firefox in the Mozilla ...

You need them. Your Xfce uses them.

Re: Linux Mint and EV cars (Humor)

I received the regular two shots of the Pfizer COVID vaccine. I didn't want the boosters. The first shot was okay; no adverse affects at all. The second shot that I got a couple of weeks after that, caused me a miserable night. Which is why I declined to take the boosters. As in the end I got COVID ...

Re: I found something like WordPad 4 linux

Personally I think I might try Abiword a bit more, as a simpler word processing option (but not specifically for RTF files). I still quite like AbiWord, although in real life I tend to stick to LibreOffice Writer. Not quite sure why I keep doing that, by the way. Back in the days, in 2006, Ab...

Re: Linux Mint and EV cars (Humor)

Why do people assume that these batteries will only last "a few years"? EV batteries should be able to last 10+ years . Anecdotal evidence, but my personal experience: in the summer of 2014 I bought a second-hand hybrid Toyota Prius (first generation), from 2001. In the spring of 2015 its...

Re: The update frequency of Mint's Firefox: an increasing security concern?

Ok, I'm confused now. I just got the Firefox update in Update Manager for 130. Since I already have 130, I assume I just ignore that update? Do I take future Firefox updates in Update Manager? I don't want updates from two different sources. When you've set the priority as mentioned in my how-to, y...

Doable I think, but you do need to create that folder first (it's there by default since Mint 21 / Ubuntu 22.04)....

sleeper12 wrote: Thu Sep 05, 2024 12:29 pm Pjotr,

I followed instructions in your item #15, but got this on the first command (C/P):
tee: /etc/apt/keyrings/packages.mozilla.org.asc: No such file or directory
Are you running Mint 22 or perhaps another OS?

You might need to create that directory first:

Code: Select all

sudo mkdir -v /etc/apt/keyrings

Re: The update frequency of Mint's Firefox: an increasing security concern?

The skipping of Firefox 129.01 and 129.02 in Mint, appears to be of no consequence for security, as they contain no security fixes according to their release notes: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/releases/ For 129.0, 130.0 is the first new version that does contain security fixes. However, fo...

Re: WPA3 Not Working on Linux Mint 22, Can't Enable Hotspot

If need be, establish temporary internet connection by means of the tethering feature of your cell phone . Please generate an overview of your system like this: - Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window) ; - Make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines; - Co...

Re: Linux Mint and EV cars (Humor)

Love my Mint Linux, loath EVs. Sorry. Likewise. EVs just cause too much anxiety for their owners. "Will I be able to make this trip with this charge?" "What if I have headwind on the way back?" "Can I safely turn the heater on, or will it decrease the mileage too much?"...

Re: The update frequency of Mint's Firefox: an increasing security concern?

As I don't like Snaps and Flatpaks, I think it would be a good idea if the Mozilla repo would become a standard repo for Mint that would be present by default. It would both improve security and take some load off the small Mint dev team.

The update frequency of Mint's Firefox: an increasing security concern?

An issue that has been discussed here before: the (probably inevitable) delay between upstream Firefox updates from Mozilla and updates for Mint's Firefox, might be a security concern. An increasing concern even, as the dangers on the web grow. Web browsers are, by far, the most attacked pieces of s...

No idea, I'm sorry to say....

Perhaps the modern Aptos fonts from Microsoft could be an interesting alternative:
