Re: Hiya! I need some help with bluetooth and brightness.

Try this:
Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels
Install the latest kernel of the 6.5 series. Then reboot and test.

I did as you suggested and updated my kernel to 6.5.0-26-generic and I now have wifi.
Good to hear! As expected, because that kernel series should contain the relevant (and best) driver by default. :)

Re: Update Manager is not working

Hello again. I uninstalled mintUpdate, rebooted the machine. Installed mintUpdate. Still broken. I did: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade It installed the Linux kernel, but not the 3 other apps sitting in Update. Still working on it. Probably not broken, but simply phased upd...

Re: Handling .deb packages

There's a driver for that chipset on GitHub, from a reputable maker: https://github.com/morrownr/8812au-20210629?tab=readme-ov-file We can help you with installing that. However, its maker has announced that on March 31 he'll publish an even newer and better version (see the readme). I recommend to ...

You mean: in-place upgrade. That should be available in Update Manager. In its panel: Edit - Upgrade to (etc).

Re: New to Linux, trying to understand the playing field

In general, things have become considerably easier in Linux over the years. Still, for an old hand like I, it's often easier to use the magical incantations of the terminal. If only because they rarely (if ever) change, in contrast to the ever changing user interfaces of the graphical applications. ...

Re: I want Western Fonts in LibreOffice Writer

most of the Western fonts have no examples to the right. So at this point I'm still wanting the examples in the font selection display. The examples have apparently been incorporated in their names. The name of the font is displayed in that very font (at least for the fonts that are suitable for su...

When in doubt, trust the defaults. Because they should be, and usually are, sensible for almost everybody. In this case: change nothing. Except for the default automated snapshot schedule, which is insanely hyperactive and can cause your drive to fill up rapidly. Oh, and for the same reason: ...
