Re: Captain is coming: GDebi replacement?
Ouch. Not maintained anymore. Bummer! I am going to miss GDebi. It has served me well without ever failing for these past eleven years. Well, I think GDebi will be present in the repos for the foreseeable future: https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=gdebi It's even in sid (unstable). Version...

Re: Captain is coming: GDebi replacement?
Yup, it's meant to replace GDebi, which is apparently unmaintained:
https://github.com/linuxmint/captain
https://github.com/linuxmint/captain
So that's a good thing.Captain replaces gdebi (which wasn't actively maintained upstream) and apturl (which wasn't actively maintained and was specific to Ubuntu).

Have you tried the layout "US International with dead keys", which should be available for a US keyboard? Or doesn't that correspond with your keyboard?

Captain is coming: GDebi replacement?
The last couple of days I've been translating a new arrival in the Dutch Mint translations: Captain. Probably due for inclusion in Mint 22.1 or later.
From the looks of the translation strings, Captain is some sort of a GDebi replacement. Is that its reason of existence?

Please generate an overview of your system like this: - Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window) ; - Make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines; - Copy/paste this command into the terminal: inxi -Fxxxpmrz (if you type: the letter F is a capital letter, and...

Re: Linux Mint and EV cars (Humor)
Personally, although EVs don't fit my needs, I don't dislike them either. Why would I? Live and let live.
What I do dislike however, very much so, is the government ramming them down our throats.

Re: The update frequency of Mint's Firefox: an increasing security concern?
Good to see that mtwebster wrote that. I can understand why the Mint devs are reluctant to add the Mozilla repo to the default software sources. Doing so is no small thing: it gives Mozilla root power over your system.... However, Mozilla is a reputable company that can be trusted to do no irrespons...

Re: Main Edition issues.?
I always do a clean install whether for major version changes and also for point releases. In-place upgrading to another point release, i.e. a release within the same series , is quite safe, reliable and smooth sailing. Because then the underlying Ubuntu code base (90+ percent of your Mint) remains...

Re: Dual or Dedicated?
Dedicated is simpler and more sturdy, because Windows updates (especially the twice-a-year big ones) tend to disrupt a dual boot setup from time to time. That can be repaired of course, but it's a recurring annoyance. So if you don't really need Windows anymore on a particular machine, I recommend t...

Re: Main Edition issues.?
The picture is distorted in an unfavourable way, by the "dirty" in-place upgrades from 21.x to 22. It's always the same. If people would only do fresh installs when the entire underlying Ubuntu code base is involved (like now), the amount of reported problems on this forum would be much lo...

Re: The update frequency of Mint's Firefox: an increasing security concern?
So I assume from those comments that using the current manually downloaded .tar.bz2 direct from Mozilla gives me the most up-to-date version that is possible,. Am I correct or could a compiled binary or .deb from Mjnt or the Mkzilla ppa be more up to date? One may expect the Firefox in the Mozilla ...

Re: Linux Mint and EV cars (Humor)
I received the regular two shots of the Pfizer COVID vaccine. I didn't want the boosters. The first shot was okay; no adverse affects at all. The second shot that I got a couple of weeks after that, caused me a miserable night. Which is why I declined to take the boosters. As in the end I got COVID ...
