Re: Can I still use kernel 3.19.8?

Normally, it's not so bad to continue running a non-updated kernel. The high-risk security fixes are usually for other parts of your system, like your web browser. But in this case you're missing out on kernel fixes/mitigations for Spectre and Meltdown. That's not so good. You might want to consider...

Kortste klap: trek in de kast even het kabeltje los van de tweede HDD voordat je installeert. Na de installatie weer aansluiten.

Re: Network Manager installed?

Hello Pjotr: (1) the link you sent provided the latest & greatest Mint version but even tho the Software Manager shows abt 10 different pgms with "network manager" in the name as being installed, it still does not appear to be working. When i try to add network Manager to the panel the only option ...

To clean out all old kernels except the current one and the latest old one (always handy to have a spare kernel):

And in The Netherlands as well.

Actually I think that both meanings (past/to) are Germanic in origin. I wonder what's it like in the other Germanic language that influenced English: Danish?

Re: Calc has stopped me migrating from Windows to Linux Mint

Have you considered using Excel in a Windows Virtual Machine, within Linux? That should give you the functionality that you need, while still giving you almost all the advantages of running Linux. :) Personally, I still maintain such a Windows VM (Windows 7) for the sole purpose of being able to upd...

Re: Network Manager installed?

It's a matter of making sure that you start out with the right iso from the right (official) mirror. That should provide the optimal clean slate.

By subsequently posting the information that I requested, we on this forum can try to help you with the best solution. :)

Re: Network Manager installed?

Did you use the v2-iso for installing (like you should), and did you download it from one of the official mirrors? If not, select one of these three: MATE: http://mintmirror.math.washington.edu/linuxmint.com/stable/19/linuxmint-19-mate-64bit-v2.iso Cinnamon: http://mintmirror.math.washington.edu/lin...

Re: Network Manager installed?

(1) both MATE NETSPEED and WICD are installed and apparently working well using Ethernet connection. However no access to WiFi. Now I see. Why on earth did you install those two applications? They're fully unnecessary and might disrupt Network Manager, which is the root of your problem. It looks li...

I could try installing a different version of Mint.
By all means do. No reason to select anything but Mint 19....

Then let's take it from there (if the problem still exists).

Hi Cat: all of the "plug-ins" were installed in hopes that at least one of them would provide EZ access to the Network Manager. Did you try what I wrote in my earlier message? I must confess that I quite fail to see what your problem is. It must be some fundamental misunderstanding. Calling up Netw...

You apparently simply had bad luck. With your hardware and/or with the how-to's that you've dug up.
