Re: virus???

The thing grabbed hold of Firefox and wouldn't let go, not OS. Just a freeze, solvable (as you already discovered) by simply killing Firefox and relaunching it.... :) I recommend xkill: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/tips#TOC-Force-a-locked-up-application-to-close-with-xkill (it...

Re: virus???

Windows Defender has detected the Zeus Virus on my computer, with a sub window asking for a user name and password. Plus a phone number for me to immediately call. Realistically, If you're on Linux, how can Windows Defender detect anything. Obviously it's a scam. +1 The browser freeze is prob...

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

Being new to Mint I was just wondering if Mint 18.3 will be updated to Mint 19 through Update Manager or will Mint 19 require a fresh download and install, or could an 18.3 system be upgraded to 19 through the CLI using sudo apt-get etc, etc. There'll probably be an upgrade option in Update Manager...

Re: What is the "correct" way to make a simple command run when Linux Mint boots to the desktop?

I am trying out Ubuntu 18-04 MATE and the file rc.local simply isn't there any more, so I'm sure there's a better way, probably involving systemd . Good luck with that. Just fyi, this is the new rigmarole: https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-automatically-execute-shell-script-at-startup-boot-on-systemd-...

Re: What is the "correct" way to make a simple command run when Linux Mint boots to the desktop?

Forget rc.local; root permissions are not required for this, and rc.local is deprecated anyway. This should work: simply create a startup application containing that command. Preferably with a "sleep" delay; the 15 seconds that Mute Ant advises are fine: sleep 15 && xinput --set-prop 'MOSART Semi. 2...

Re: An interesting article regarding some Ubuntu snap packages

The question arises: should Flatpaks have such a prominent place in Software Manager, nearly indistinguishable from "ordinary" applications? Would it perhaps be a good idea to show a warning / caution for Flatpaks?

Re: What would you use if Mint wasn't available?

Seem to me that it's best to stick to one of the big Distro's Definitely. I've been using desktop Linux full time since 2006, and in that time I've lost my illusions about the small projects.... Only the big ones offer the long-term reliability you can trust. One should be reasonably sure that one'...
