if I were you I would find a way (friend, other computer) to download a Gparted live cd .iso and burn it as a disk image then use it to do the partitioning befor you do the mint install. start by deleting all partitions on the disk. then make 1- 10-15Gig partition ext3 for / then 1- linux swap 2Gig ...

I tried doing sudo shutdown -h 0 in a normal terminal, because of lack of boot cd where I'm at now. Nothing failed! And it started up nicely after. from a live cd/usb do as I sead above for /dev/sda3 and 4 ..then after open a terminal and do

sudo shutdown -h now
and see if you still get the umount error...........it may just be a problem with shutting down from a GUI

my mint9 fluxbox has a windows drivers utility to do it for you.....you just point it to the .inf file. but ndiswrapper should be in your package manager.......thar are 2 packages you nead ndiswrapper-utils & common be shur to put all 3 driver files in the same folder and then open a terminal thare....

OT. I have a couple of cheap 2 GB memory sticks that come with a small security application in a separate UDF (2 MB) formatted partition. The computer thinks that it is a CDROM hence read-only. I have tried everything to get rid of that partition, nothing works. Tried all sorts of linux and windoze...

sorey.....I wasent saying that DeVeDe wasent good....or couldent do it. I have DeVeDe (and 32 other players/converters/media tools )and use it all the time and love it........it uses mencoder witch is also a good recoder. I was suggesting ffmpeg on the CLI to see what errors he mite get to help with...

thats a lower case L
or tell us the file system type ext3 ext4 .........if one of these 2 boot a live cd and run

whare x is the # of he partition you want to check....... do all your ext3-4 partitions one at a time
