Huawei Share

I have an interesting issue with "Huawei Share". Huawei does not say it works with Linux but does offer it in Windows and on Macs. However, my investigation showed that switching on Huawei Share on a Huawei handset (our household has three of them) creates a samba server on that handset. The name at...

Re: Trouble with Wine in Linux mint 20 Ulyana

I too had a lot of adventures upgrading to LM20 Cinnamon on my Carbon X1 3rd gen. Originally, I backed all data up to an external drive, connected a USB drive with LM20 on it and did a clean install. I subsequently had the same problem many of you seem to be having whenever I double clicked on a *se...

Re: Linux Mint in Mac and Windows costume

Yup. That's about it. I also put a Win10 boot and shut down Plymouth theme on all our stuff. After the move to LightDM, however, I can't find a "mock Win10" login but setting the Win10 seacave image as background just about does the trick. Other family members only ask once and nod wisely when I tel...

Re: Linux Mint in Mac and Windows costume

Indeed, each to his or her own and good luck to him or her. In my case, I was fortunate to have made the total shift to LM around about the time Win10 came out so nobody else within the household at that time had much experience of that OS and, anyway, were mostly only interested in "Where's the Fir...

Re: Linux Mint in Mac and Windows costume

Lots of Minters don't like it but I believe many reasonable people would realise that there are valid reasons why some people might want or need to disguise the fact that their laptop or PC is not running Windows. That was certainly the case for me when I decided to go completely Mint, moving away f...

Re: Numeric Keypad Alt Codes

Sorry I posted the wrong link, the one I think I was referring to is here: https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1351 . My first language is Welsh and, for many decades, with MS Windows I was forever fiddling with ALT+nnnn to insert letters which are non-standard in English. Letters such as ...

You could read this https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/254477/linux-alternative-to-altnumpad-codes then, unless you already know all about a "Compose" key - which I did not! - then you could read this: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/254477/linux-alternative-to-altnumpad-codes To set ...

Thank you and, yes, I realise the LO team did solve it. However, I had some work to do on that actual day and it couldn't wait.

Re: Libreoffice 6.4.2.2 from Flathub - Print Dialogue

You're right deepakdeshp. The reason I switched to the Flatpak version was that Libreoffice messed up its PPA a few weeks ago and my installation got badly corrupted, so I had to purge and switch to the Flatpack version. Having now reverted back, as per your suggestion, the size of the print dialogu...

Libreoffice 6.4.2.2 from Flathub - Print Dialogue [SOLVED]

I'm running LM 19.3 Cinnamon on a Dell XPS-L502x and everything is zipping along rather nicely, as it has done for years with LM. However, I recently had the urge to upgrade Libreoffice by purging the supplied version and installing Libreoffice 6.4.2.2 from Flathub. I forget what sparked the origina...

Re: Desktop Shortcuts/Links

Sorry, smurphos, I was getting my threads mixed up. My original contribution to this thread came subsequent to participation in another that addressed the issue of a glitch that some of us encountered in LM Cinnamon 19.2 where the right click on the desktop did not offer the option "Create new launc...

Re: Desktop Shortcuts/Links

A continuing complication, for newbies, I believe, is that what they are looking for is the ability to "Create a new launcher here" via a right click on the desktop. I too have previously drawn attention to the possibility of enabling this via the Nemo "Preferences". I suggest, however, that within ...

Re: Cannot see lmde3 pc on network

I had fun and games with sharing. At the moment, I don't have my LMDE3 laptop with me, I am using another wich is running LM 19.3. However, have you tried this: edit /etc/samba/smb.conf and add the following lines under "workgroup = WORKGROUP", in the "[global]" section: name resolve order = bcast h...

Re: Script to set mouse buttons

Excellent! It worked - however, I had to place the "mosart.conf" file in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/

Thank you SO much for your help.

[SOLVED] Script to set mouse buttons

I have a five button mouse and have written a script that runs on startup to set mouse buttons using xinput. I've called the file ".set_button_map.sh" and awarded the appropriate properties, it gets called on boot. I've tried two versions: Version 1: #!/bin/bash xinput set-button-map 15 1 2 3 4 5 6 ...
