Re: The future of Mint

I thought changing the sources.list to sid was all it took to have the stable edition... Sid is unstable, you mean Squeeze. And it's not as simple as just changing the sources. Sure you can change them and have a stable system, but you have to forego the Mint specific packages because they're compi...

Re: Mint names.

I don't know about naming standards, but there's too many versions around. My opinion is for two versions: Mint - Containing all the various desktops in a live DVD (choose a DE as a session before login). Based on Debian Stable with security updates and backported packages. Fresh Mint - All the desk...

Re: LMDE (stable) Firefox5 from MU error

Going to Mozilla's site above for stable (Squeeze), Iceweasel, version given in pull down box are: 3.0, 3.5, 3.6, release, beta, aurora. I do not see 5.0, or 6.0. It's a Debian site, not Mozilla. I noticed this too yesterday. They've changed the options a bit. The one you want is "release" which is...

Re: The future of Mint

Like many others i want to see a Mint version based on Debian Stable. Since the LMDE iso is already bigger than a CD i'd like to see it expanded a bit. Get rid of the individual variants and have a single iso containing all the desktops with an additional step during installation allowing selection ...

Re: mdadm doing unexpected things (Mint 11 and Ubuntu 11)

I had similar problems when setting up a Debian Stable server earlier this year. I can't remember exactly what the problem was but i *think* mdadm was getting confused about what disks to include in the array. I found that drives don't keep consistent order between reboots under Linux, so what might...

Re: Virtualbox 4.x to 4.x Debian Squeeze?

Just disable the updates in the Virtualbox preferences.

You'll get an upgraded version of virtualbox when it makes it into the repositories.

Re: Error while trying to install Iceweasel 4.

What do I do this fix this? You need to upgrade your libcairo2. It's up there in the mozilla.debian.net repository. You may have to install it manually. Go to http://mozilla.debian.net/dists and choose the distro you are tracking (i've pinned mine to Debian Stable/Squeeze for the time being) then t...

Re: Problem watching dvb-t

You could also try installing "totem-plugins-dvb-daemon" which gives Totem TV viewing abilities. This was my first choice as it's Gnome's "official" way of viewing DVB and includes a nice DVB TV guide. Unfortunately it didn't work properly for me as i would get constant resource busy errors. The cha...

Re: Iceweasel 4 and libcairo2

I believe the version of libcairo2 in LMDE is patched to give nice, smooth (Mac OS X-like), font rendering. The standard libcairo2 in Debian does not have the necessary patch and so the fonts are rendered in an ugly, jagged (Windows-like), style. I *think* that Mepis also patches libcairo2 with the ...
