Re: grub gui not found

Yes. Sorry to everyone. Grub Customizer is indeed what I was looking for. My latest distros included it. I forgot that it was separate and required a PPA.

grub gui not found

I have been using grub for several years on a variety of distributions. All others, including older Mints(12.04, 12.10), allowed use of grub in a gui. Now, in Mint 17.1 xfce there is no gui. Is that an oversight? My ignorance? Or what? I typically have 6 distributions installed in 6 different partit...

Gnome help button does not get help

Why does the Help button in gnome apps not yield gnome help, but rather sends all help requests to the same Mint manual page, where there is no gnome app help?

Re: Gnome application help does not work in Mint 13 XFCE(Sol

Iveand, Thank you very much. I have delayed heavy use of Mint 13 Xfce until this was fixed. Clem's reply made no sense to me, in that I am running Xfce. I could care less about problems with Mate or Cinn. As I mentioned in my original post: Yelp works fine in LMDE Xfce and in Xubuntu.

Gnome application help does not work in Mint 13 XFCE

In Mint 13 XFCE, in Gnome applications, when Contents inside the Help Menu is selected, Yelp is supposed to be started with the specific help content for that specific Gnome app. That does not happen; instead Firefox is started, pointed to http://www.linuxmint.com/documentation.php, which contains n...

Re: Mint Debian Cinnamon cannot properly handle conky

this is not a specif-cinnamon issue: it's related with the way the desktop is handled in gnome3 (cinnamon, gnome-shell): if the file manager handles (or not) the desktop. here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforum.php?f=212 you should find some topics about this. Thank you for the reply and the lin...

Mint Debian Cinnamon cannot properly handle conky

The code for ~/.conkyrc below fails only on Mint Debian Cinnamon. It works correctly on Xubuntu 12.04, Mint Debian XFCE, Mint Debian Mate, SolusOS, and Mint 13 XFCE. In all cases the command "conky -d -p 5" is placed in auto start. This tells me that nothing more is required to get conky t...

midori error on startup

After installing from Synaptic on Mint 13 XFCE, starting Midori yields:

Error - file:///usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/index.html

The page 'file:///usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/index.html' couldn't be loaded.

Error opening file: No such file or directory

Is there a workaround?

Re: [SOLVED?]Desktop Background disappearing

Fiver22's solution (sudo apt-get remove --purge nautilus) worked for me. Tried just removing single package "nautilus" in Synaptic, but didn't work.

Re: [SOLVED?]Desktop Background disappearing

Sounds like a lot of workarounds for what should be a simple solution: run gconf-editor apps - nautilus - preferences unclick "show desktop" You can have Nautilus and your old desktop too. Hope this solves the problem more simply. I have no "show desktop" option in apps->Nautilu...

On 32bit Lisa/Cinnamon, timer applet fails

On 32bit Lisa/Cinnamon 1.4, timer applet fails as timer. Instead, installed on the bar is the string "null:370058:50:nnnn" where nnnn counts up continually. Right click on that string offers only the one option, "Restart", which has no effect.

Re: Cannot remove Mozilla based browser(s)

craigevil: You seem to be right about sun-java6-plugin. That plugin seems to be needed by mint-meta-codecs, which would indicate that Mint is responsible. But I don't really know. My mind ties itself in knots in complex dependency relationships.

Cannot remove Mozilla based browser(s)

I cannot remove a chain of Mozilla based browsers. When I remove Firefox, synaptic insists on installing IceWeasel; When removing IceWeasel, synaptic insists on installing IceApe; When removing IceApe, Synaptic insists on installing Firefox.
