Re: Cinnamon: maximus-like
Maximus will actually still work with cinnamon/muffin, you can then disable auto-maximizing (gconf-editor -> apps/maximus). Enjoy borderless maximized windows!

Re: UP4+3.2 = loadavg over 66
If anyone wonders, fixed it by reinstalling LMDE from latest iso instead of updating.

important windows not flashing
In most DE when a window needs attention (new message, task done, etc) it begins flashing or try to get your attention in some other way. However in cinnamon nothing like this happen, is this intended? a setting? or a bug? am I missing something? Edit: after some fiddling it doesn't seem to be a cin...

Cinnamon: maximus-like
Back in gnome2 times, I used to have maximus (or appropriate compiz setting) + window picker applet. For those who don't know, these 2 little programs mainly do 2 things: - remove decorations for maximized windows - add a closing button to the window list's icons ( example of what it can looks like ...

[SOLVED: reinstall] UP4+3.2 = loadavg over 66
So I eventually went around trying UP4 this morning. Appart from the awful gnome shell (easy to replace with cinnamon thankfully), I stumbled accross another problem. When booting kernel 3.2 (3.0 works fine), my comp goes mad: it ends up in terminal/recovery mode and locks up. Upon investigating I f...

Re: Network Printers print page with a 2cm margin on left
Sadly no luck with that (it create a whole mess where the printer asks me for letter format paper instead, etc).
I've found enabling "wide a4" in the options makes it a bit better (something like 5mm off instead of 2cm) but had no effect on the height offset.

Network Printers print page with a 2cm margin on left
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with network printers. For some reason, both print pages with an extra margin on left (and top?) whilst the right side is being cut. Printing from windows works fine. Printers are: Brother MFC-7840W and canon I-Sensys LBP6650. Driver installed for both. The problem s...

Re: Weather/Clock Issue
Did a quick investigation on your clock issue, confirmed it happen for me too. Also I can give a bit more details: the problem is not that the value is not saved, it actually is in "/apps/panel/applets/clock/prefs/cities" (use gconfeditor to see it). The problem appears to be the clock-app...

Re: LMDE SpinX3 Wishlist
Posted that on breakage but better here i think I think mint updater in LMDE should come with a "key packages list" which would contains packages that should never be removed by updates if installed, like nvidia-glx, mintmenu, fglrx, grub, etc. Could be an option located near the "inc...

Re: Hacking LMDE
"Timing is everything"! Thanks. That worked. I was at the root, and sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf took me straight to GUI - no reboot option. Do I have to reconfigure xconfig? Did this get me back to the standard open source driver, or should I reinstall the drivers? I don't care about propr...

Re: Hacking LMDE
I'm using the 32-bit LMDE and upgraded successfully to the PAE version (installed linux-headers-2.6-686-pae). I thought my perfromance may have been degraded due to nvidia driver issues (perhaps not being recompiled?). In any event, I did this and got a message saying something to the effect of the...

Re: Hacking LMDE
After some bad first experience... and my disk blanking itself... I am back for another try at LMDE. So here is some of the tweak I've done to get what I wanted. Before dist-upgrade Telling apt to not install recommended packages APT sometime install load of pretty unnecessary stuff so to save lot o...

Re: Considering switching back to mint 10, did I miss someth
I hope it is not too late, I used a workaround to get more updated packages on LMDE, of course loosing some of the stability, just follow the information I just posted on other thread: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=69783 Regards. This indeed looks like an interesting solutio...

Re: Considering switching back to mint 10, did I miss someth
I'd recommend sticking to Mint 10. Your requirement is apparently the latest software versions, which Debian has never been known to have. Debian Testing is the base of the next Debian Stable, so newer versions do roll into the repo but only after clearing other hurdles. Ubuntu/Mint will be much qu...

Considering switching back to mint 10, did I miss something?
Just a little background: I've been fiddling with linux since about ubuntu 5.04. I'm quite tolerant about hardware bugs since it's usually due to manufacturers, but in other hand if I have to battle with a program for it to do what it is supposed to I'll be annoyed. So, I started with ubuntu, it sta...
