I suppose if the Linux community wanted Windows, they'd use it.
Without attempting to create a kerfuffle, I can't tell you how much I disagree with what you think the Linux-world needs. But then I only have been using Linux since the mid 1990s... so I'm pretty biased.

I tend to use Mousepad, and Zim. I use mousepad for transitory edits... zim (wiki) for stuff I want to keep around for years in a readily accessible DB/ wiki.
