add a shutdown warning

Adding a 30 second shutdown warning when running on battery would be nice. It would give a chance to save and close or run plug in the charger. It's really annoying to have the laptop just shutdown in the middle of doing something.

Re: Printer shared over network found but not printing

I have found that sharing a printer connected to a computer is a headache even when all computers are using the same OS. You could try using a print server that allows you to connect a usb printer via wifi.

Linux has no problem seeing files on Windows drives, but Windows will need help seeing a Linux drive. Keep the files you to use with both on the Windows drive.

Update Brother MFC-J870DW

I managed to get it printing. I ignored the errors I posted above and continued installing the lpr and cupswrapper drivers. Then went to Menu > Settings > Printing Add printer > network printer > selected the MFC-J870DW > put in the correct URI (IP) and it prints. Now to tackle the scanner.

Re: Linux Printing isn't working

... This last section has nothing to do with GCP, it would only be of interest to those trying to get the Brother print driver and scanner installed in Linux Mint. The only print driver that worked for me, and only for the MFC-J870DW, is the Linux-brprinter-installer tool, which is mundanely includ...

Re: Linux Printing isn't working

Typically it's the scanner, that is the big "printer issue". - in which case, use a HP printer, as they supply the correct drivers. otherwise, it's Epson which almost always works, - for the printing side. & for Cannon, "Install the PPA using the terminal commands provided then u...

Re: Linux Printing isn't working

Must admit the Linux appeal is wanning for me. Simply getting tired of fighting problems (that's why I left Windows). Sure my system is stable, virus free, and runs faster, but things just don't work. Took me a week to get 3D working after an update broke it. My Kodak printer will somewhat work, but...

Re: [SOLVED] Maya update has screwed AMD driver -fglrx

I removed them and now have generic 3D, but it's slow. When trying to install the proprietary driver I get the following. billy@billy-laptop ~/Downloads/ATI $ amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run: command not fo...

Re: [SOLVED] Maya update has screwed AMD driver -fglrx

Just to be clear, after you removed the fglrx and fglrx-amdccle packages you were then able to enable the proprietary driver.
