Re: Updates changing Firefox personalized settings.

As a last resort I will go to the Mozilla install, but thats a manual install. Not that I cant do it, but I would have to keep an eye on updates, that or write a script to update it. I really like auto updates. In any event it shouldnt be happening in the first place. If its a script, it needs to s...

Re: Updates changing Firefox personalized settings.

Use Ubuntu's version instead, that shouldn't do that, although it's possible Mint is messing it up via the ubuntu-system-adjustment scripts they're running, I'd have to check. Still, worth a try, if you're on LM19, then run: apt install firefox/bionic-updates You can also download Firefox from mozi...

Updates changing Firefox personalized settings.

I am about SICK of LM changing the selected search when updating. I choose a search engine. I remove all those that I do not want to use. Then an update to Firefox comes along and removes my settings and replaces what I removed. This is not acceptable. This is one of the reasons I left Microsoft. Wh...

Re: Mint 19 Theming issues.

After rechecking Cinnamon perhaps the cursor isnt a problem on Cinnamon, but the shade around gkrellm is there.
It also takes forever for the theme changer to load on Cinnamon.

Mint 19 Theming issues.

This doesnt just happen on Mate, it happens on Cinnamon as well, installed in separate partitions. The same problems do not happen on Ubuntu Bionic Mate. The cursor themes dont work. You cant change from the standard white cursor. If you select another theme, the standard white cursor shows but wait...

Re: wine vs crossover...

I bought crossover a few years ago. It worked ok for a bit, but updates to software installed in it started to give me problems. I tried wine staging, and it has worked better for some applications. After using Linux for 10 years, I have learned a few tricks, and one is google and google again. Soon...

It appears lxqt-sudo is still available and does pretty much the same thing.

Re: Cinnamon crash - Solved

Your welcome, glad to help where I can. The reason I thought of the 390 driver is because I have a 560 ti, same generation as the 660 I believe, it has issues with the 390 driver. It will work for a time but always messes up, most of the time when I cant afford to mess with it. Before retrying the d...

Re: Cinnamon crash

IIt would appear there is a problem with the driver, its possible it was updated. Try switching to another version, say 340 and see if the problem persists. See if you can starat terminal with alt + F2 and type in x-terminal-emulator. Then type sudo driver-manager into the terminal.

Re: Why isn't my Backup Partition being mounted?

I should have said to wait if you did not have knowledge of mounting with fstab.. The line you added is wrong and needs to be edited. Boot with a live dvd/usb. Open the file manager by clicking on Home on the desktop. Mount the drive by clicking on it in the left panel. Leave it mounted. Open a term...

Re: Why isn't my Backup Partition being mounted?

Did you mount it in /etc/fstab? It might be a good idea that way its automatically mounted when you start the computer.

Re: How would you remove Linux Mint then reinstall it again, while dual booting?

Also in Step 5, I'd need a Windows recovery disc or recovery USB drive? Where do I get that? Long ago computer manufacturers gave you reinstall/recovery disks. Those days are long gone. Now most of them create a partition with the images and tell people in the manual to create them as a first step ...

No. I'm in no hurry: 18.3 is working fine. I'm going to wait until it's good and ready. Mint is my OS, not my project... :)
Everyone does what they can. Some people donate money, others contribute in other ways like testing beta releases and reporting bugs.

Re: New version of Linux Mint (Have you tried it, yet ?)

I have been running it since Saturday when it was found that the iso was live on the mirrors. I find it polished and very stable. Running Cinnamon 64bit with cairo dock.

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

The testing iso's may have a few small issues left, but they are things a lot of people dont use like hibernate (which is buggy in Ubuntu itself) and home folder encryption. At least I dont use them. So far its Mint 19 Cinnamon is polished and imho incredible. That being said the way I installed it,...

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

Is there (or could there be) an "official' sticky instruction for safely saving /home for insertion to Mint 19, when it is released. I have moderate talent, but am always willing to become smarter! Another option is having multiple install partitions. I have 3 drives and one is a SSD. Its only 120g...

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

I really wish the Linux Mint 19.x will keep the use of system resources to a minimum. Make sure the least memory is used, the less background processes the better and everything is lean and fast. This minimalism approach is the best thing to do. Each to his own taste. It seems that the lightweight ...
