Ok, I couldn't get either shift-key to work so I just set the GRUB timeout to be 3 seconds. It was originally 5.
I must be able to select the recovery option so I guess I'm just going to have to have 3 seconds: you never know when your system is going to break and you need the recovery entry.

Re: How do I hide the GRUB menu in Linux Mint Debian?
Thank you, setting time-out to 0 immediately boots the kernel. However, either tapping rapidly or holding left-shift on-boot does not pause the boot to be able to select the recovery mode if need be. Is left-shift the correct key to be pressing or am I missing something?

How do I hide the GRUB menu in Linux Mint Debian?
I've been searching around but haven't found any conclusive or bullet-proof enough instructions to follow. What I want to do: I don't want to see the GRUB menu, just have it auto-boot into the latest kernel. If I press the left-shift-key on boot then I want the GRUB menu to be displayed for that boo...

Re: Synaptic "Mark all upgrades" button gone.
OK - here's the fix. If you haven't already (or if you've rebooted) reinstall synaptic. Now, before you reboot open a terminal and: sudo gedit /etc/linuxmint/adjustments/10-mintsystem-synaptic.preserve This will create a new text file. Add the following two lines to the file: /usr/share/synaptic/gl...

Re: Synaptic "Mark all upgrades" button gone.
Unlike you, I am not quite "stock". I have the Liquorix kernel, and " backports" enabled. I do not look at any of these issues as "breakages", just "small sprains"! Oh I understand that Gene, but you don't seem to be the only one reporting this. Are all the o...

Re: Synaptic "Mark all upgrades" button gone.
WARNING: Please, don't get mad! I know the following sounds crazy, but at least it will not do things worse. :) For a while ago, I had a similar issue with "Quick filter". It finally came back in place after running these: sudo apt-get autoremove sudo apt-get autoclean sudo apt-get clean ...

[Solved]Synaptic "Mark all upgrades" button gone.
Ok, so today I found some updates and applied them. After installation the "Mark All Upgrades" button was simply missing from Synaptic. To resolve this issue I did the following command in a terminal: sudo apt-get install --reinstall synaptic Hope this helps someone out there! ;) Bill. Edi...

Re: bash error on entering terminal.
Apparently it is to do with the "200 lines" patch to the kernel which improves latency.
The liquorix kernel update is likely the cause of this situation.
Any advice?

bash error on entering terminal.
Hi, today I applied the usual updates, some X updates and a new Liquorix kernel being the ones that stuck out. Now, whenever I open a terminal I get the following message: bash: /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/3282/tasks: No such file or directory bash: /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/3282/notify_on_release: No such file...

I don't know if this will help you, but having a bootable cd from here:

is always a good idea. *Goes to burn one*

Re: Differences between testing and stable repo's?
If you want to be bleeding edge then you want to point to unstable which is also called sid. But sid has a potential to break from time to time. if you want a good compromise between stability you should just leave the repos the way they are by default which is pointing to testing. Which I believe ...

Differences between testing and stable repo's?
I'm new to LMDE so I'm not all that sure what repo's I should be pointed at. Here is my current sources.list: bill@solomon /etc/apt $ cat sources.list deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import backport romeo deb-src http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import back...

I use Turpial. Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/#!/turpialve Direct download: http://turpial.org.ve/files/debian/stable/ The .deb works fine. I also put in into my Preferences > Startup Applications: Name: Turpial Command: turpial So that it loads each time I log on. Edit: it stays in the system tra...

I'm also interested in seeing if it is possible to load GNOME 3 final into LMDE right now. Any "backport" repository available for it?

I am also thoroughly impressed with Linux Mint Debian. My entire experience with it so far has been completely positive. If it ever goes away then I think I will have to go to the root: Debian and see what I can do from there!

Re: Recommended updates?
Thank you for the tips! I tried smxi but once it killed X it took my network manager with it: BCM4311 Wireless (with b43-fwcutter sourced firmware). So, without smxi I went ahead and just installed the liquorix kernel and headers with synaptic: bill@solomon ~ $ uname -r 2.6.38-2.dmz.1-liquorix-amd64...
