Re: faster repo mirror?

Thanks. That did the trick. Downloads/searches packages much quicker now.

How do I mark this as solved?

faster repo mirror? SOLVED

Hi

In Debian you can use the redirector repo to get the lowest latency mirrors. Is there something like this available in Mint? If not, how else can I find the fastest mirrors for my Mint machine?

Thanks

Re: Mate on LMDE 17.1 vs Debian Jessie

What I'm trying to do is make the Mate Desktop on my Debian 8 look like the Mate Desktop on my Linux Mint Debian Edition. I dont know why it looks so different on both systems. The only thing I can think of is that Linux Mint has a custom Mate desktop that does not look at all like Gnome 2, which is...

Re: Mate on LMDE 17.1 vs Debian Jessie

deb http://extra.linuxmint.com betsy main this is what I added to my repo. I matched it from my LMDE sources.list. root@erikpc:/etc/apt# apt-get -t betsy install mate-desktop-environment Reading package lists... Re: Mate on LMDE 17.1 vs Debian Jessie

You are right, my bad. Thats what I get for trying too many distros at once. lol... My Host OS is Debian 8 with Mate desktop, guest OS is LMDE 2 with Mate Desktop. Id like my Debian Mate to look like my LMDE2 Mate, Thats what I mean to say. Sorry for the confusion. I was also playing with Linux Mint...

Mate on LMDE 17.1 vs Debian Jessie

I have Mate 1.8.1 installed on both my main host OS Debian 8 Jessie and on my guest OS (virtual box) LMDE 171. The Mate's look completely different. The one on Debian Jessie looks more like Gnome 2 and the Mate in LM looks newer and more modern, I'd like them both be the newer looking one, but not s...

Re: Network Manager, static IP problem

Good thing is I have two ssd's, one with debian jessie which is the one I'm using most of the time because I can connect to all my networks. The other ssd is my LM install which I am wanting to transition to as my normal SSD, but not until I figure out the wireless problem.

Any suggestions?

Network Manager, static IP problem

On my Debian Jessie install I don't have this issue, its only with LM 17.1 amd64 w/ KDE. I need to connect to several different wireless networks for my work. I cannot use DHCP, it has to be set manually on these networks. In Network Manager, there is an option for manual IP, but there is nowhere to...

Re: How to update BIOS?

Thank you for the replies. I have also heard that it can "brick" the motherboard if done incorrectly which I really don't want to. The reason I was thinking of doing this is because of video issues I am having. Ive reimaged my machine with Mint 13 and still having the issue.

Controlling screen brightness on laptop.

Samsung r480 laptop. Linux Mint 13 KDE :D The Fn keys for the brightness do not work. I am using this workaround: sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.b=XX. The XX is the level of brightness; 0 being the darkest, 100 brightest. I normally have it at 25. If I reboot or sleep the laptop, it will go to a default ...

Re: Correct Epson Ink Levels in Mint7 with MTink (SOLVED)

I installed mtink, and am part of lp group. When I run mtink, it says "Error No Access to printer device file." I click OK but it shows all ink levels empty. When I click on Preferences says, "choose browser" a radio box for "Mini Help", another for "Allow automatic detection". Port Choice and Print...

Re: Why I love Linux Mint

I'd like to add to the list of things why i love this OS is not having to worry about viruses. yeah, it kinda bugs me that Netflix doesn't work on our Linux machines. LibreOffice is really great. a lot of great stuff. the mintube player thing is cool, among other cool stuff.

Re: Which GPU to pick for Linux Mint?

I think this happens because you don't yet have the driver installed - you should be able to work around it by booting with nomodeset (hold shift to see Grub bootloader, then press e to edit and add nomodeset at the end of the next-to-last line). But miteymitey presumably still has the driver of hi...

Re: Epson Stylus NX420 network printing?

So I found the solution on www.linuxquestions.org. I tried just about everything except for this. Anyway, here is the link if anyone else needs network printing.

Re: Which GPU to pick for Linux Mint?

I have the 550Ti and I cannot get it to work. I get a bunch of error messages or blank screens or both. I might be doing something wrong though. I'm not sure. for now I'm using the integrated graphics from the i7-2600 until I figure it out.

Re: Mint12 "/usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf failed"

i am not sure if this will help or not, but it helped me when i was setting up my epson priner. I installed a package called mtink. In the software manager, type in mtink and download and install it. I think its only for epson printers.

Epson Stylus NX420 network printing?

On my MInt 12 desktop, I am able to print if USB connected, but how do I set up network printing? My Epson printer is on my wireless network, and currently I can print/scan wirelessly from both my Windows laptops. The printer does not have an ethernet port, it is a usb or wireless network printer. T...
