Re: Mint 11 KDE development
Why don't we just use wicd by default? It's a great little network manager.

Re: Distros of interest and why.
(update) Installed absolute linux 13.37 .. Figured out how to boot it. Tried it out a lil bit and got rid of it. Saw no advantage to keeping it over what I've already got installed. Used more and less user friendly than the others. Still not a bad distro I guess. Just not what I was looking for. Ne...

Re: More sharing issues
Hey, that's more convenient than file sharing, and it works. I was wondering if it was strange to use windows file sharing between two linux computers. Thanks. By the way, windows does the same thing. My credentials don't work and it just asks me again. Samba is iffy. I've had a lot of issues shari...

Re: More sharing issues
Have you tried to SSH into the connection?
Using dolphin - CTRL + L sftp://username@computername
Using nautilus - CTRL + L ssh://username@computername
Then just log in... you can browse the entire / directory without it being 'shared' since you just logged into the computer remotely.

Slitaz is very nice. Don't know why you need to get to such a extreme OS to have a fast system. What's your computer hardware? You can always go back to FreeDOS! I think he just enjoys seeing how fast and light he can get things to run. I have to admire the effort and anyone that can get that numbe...

Re: Mint Overtakes Ubuntu for #1 spot
Oh, well, not everyone's experiences are the same, obviously. I've been using Ubuntu since Dapper and Mint since Daryna, but sticking mostly with LTS releases. My most recent installations of each were Lucid and Isadora. I don't see any real advantage in running Mint instead of Ubuntu; both have be...

arnolzz: Install packages small group by small group trying to find the package that is 'broken'. Then just don't install that package and you will be OK... I had to do that on Julia KDE and it worked fine after that.

explorer: Do you know of a good XFCE distro I should try? I could always go for LM XFCE, but last time I had that... let's say I struggled a bit with it because I'm not sure Debian is good for me
Thanks!

Re: Distros of interest and why.
I have to say, I really like PCLinuxOS! I've installed the KDE edition and had it replace Xubuntu in my multiboot environment. I'll put some sort of XFCE on there later, just not sure which distro yet. Any suggestions? =)
Thanks!
Thanks!

DAAP Music Sharing Server (best program)
I know rhyhtmbox does this, but when I am using KDE I don't REALLY want to have to install Rhythmbox with all of its dependencies and I'd rather use what comes with the system... Amarok... or some other QT player. I've tried Tangerine and I couldn't get my laptop to recognize that the music was bein...

Re: Distros of interest and why.
I might try it, I am a bit wary... but I tried Bodhi and that's a minimal distro and I think I've done OK with it... so it's doable. =D PCLinuxOS has "task" scripts in Synaptic for things like multimedia support, printing, etc, it makes quick work of some of the bigger things. I started w...
