Re: No Desktop Icons

That looks like ubuntu repos. I'm running the Debian build. At this point I'm finding more and more issues. Changes to the power settings for example are not working correctly. I think I'm going to have to reinstall. I may end up going back to Ubuntu and trying Unity again. Gnome3 just feels like it...

Re: No Advanced Settings

I do have Tweak Tool. I had to instal it though earlier. I did not have it by default after installation. It doesn't have hardly any of the options on the Advanced Settings screen pictured in the other thread I have about missing desktop icons.

Re: No Desktop Icons

Neither, this is the Debian Edition rolling distribution. I'll check this tonight and see if I can find it. Thanks for the input.

No Advanced Settings

Since upgrading to Gnome 3 I've been trying to tweak various parts of the OS. I keep seeing mention of accessing the Advnaced Settings and I've seen screenshots of what it should look like. I can't find this anywhere on my installation. I'm not sure why it's missing but it is. Is there a way to add ...

Re: No Desktop Icons

I just realized, I do not have access to an Advanced Settings app. All I have are basic settings. The Advanced settings are completely missing from my installation. Any way to add them back?

Re: No Desktop Icons

Yes they were set to show and still not doing so. I fixed it by installing dconfig and changing them that way.

One more issue I'm having is that the battery applet for my laptop is not showing on the bar.

No Desktop Icons

I have my desktop settings set to display certain icons on the desktop but they do not appear after upgrading to Gnome 3. Is there a way to make my desktop icons reappear again? I'm mainly worried about the removable media icons but the home folder was nice as well. Also, is there a way to get my wi...

Re: Network Manager not remembering password

Got it fixed. I opened the Network Connections from the main application menu and input the password. The validation box popped up fine and save my changed this time. For some reason when you access these settings from the applet menu on the top bar it prevents you from saving settings correctly.

Network Manager not remembering password

Previously I had Network Manager set up to remember my wireless key for my own network. After the big update to Gnome 3 it is no longer remembering the password. I enter it in the settings and choose to let all users use the connection, then cllick save. I see a password screen flash by but I have n...

Re: [SOLVED]Still stuck with terminal instead of GUI

Same problem again today. There was an NVIDIA update and back to no GUI. The first fix worked fine this time. Just renamed the xorg.conf to xorg.conf.old2. I guess I'll have to deal with this on every NVIDIA update.

Update uninstalled Thunderbird?

I just did a terminal update/upgrad: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade After that, Thunderbird had been uninstalled for some reason. I had to reinstall the package and it picked up my old settings fine. Now I can't get it to show up in my favorites on the menu ...

Re: [SOLVED]Still stuck with terminal instead of GUI

Originally, I asked for help figuring it out. I never got any help with it here so I posted how I fixed it for other peoples benefit. This was a common problem when I originally posted this topic.

Re: Still stuck with terminal instead of GUI

After another batch of updates this morning, the same basic problem occurred except this time I couldn't even get to the terminal. I just got a blinking cursor on screen. I was able to get to the terminal via the recovery boot option. I finally figured out that this time there was no xorg.conf direc...

Re: Still stuck with terminal instead of GUI

I finally seem to have it working. I got the latest batch of updates this morning which I noticed upgraded the kernel and the Nvidia drivers. Still no good for graphics though. So I had to su to root and run the following command: mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.old After which the GUI load...

[SOLVED]Still stuck with terminal instead of GUI

I know there have been some issues with a recent update breaking the Debian based distros. I've run into this before I knew anything about it. Currently I'm all up to date, but stuck at the terminal command line and unable to get to the desktop. I've tried rolling back the mesa related items per the...

Re: Dual boot system clock issue.

Yes that fixed it. Thanks. I had attempted to force Windows to use UTC via the registry tweak to no avail. This works on my dual boot Hackintosh and Win7 that had the same problem, but didn't work on the XP machine.

[SOLVED] Dual boot system clock issue.

I've got Mint XFCE and Windows XP dual booted on an old Dell 8300. All is working well with one problem. My system clock on the XP side is ahead by 4 hours every time I reboot. I can change it and reboot and it is fine. Once I boot into Mint the clock is also fine, but then when I go back to XP it i...
