Re: Windows doesn't boot after installing Linux Mint

After you install windows, use its shrink utility to make room for Mint. The amount of space is up to you, but 50 to 100gig should be enough. Make sure windows boots after shrinking its partition before continuing. When installing linux, choose the side-by-side option - it should be the first or sec...

Re: Windows doesn't boot after installing Linux Mint

Well I don't know what files you copied, but you don't seem to have a windows system :? I don't think you can use the recovery environment as there's no longer anything to recover. If windows is important to you do you have an installation media to reinstall it :?: I can't be of any help with that a...

Re: Windows doesn't boot after installing Linux Mint

Got it! Copied the files. By the way, do you think because I did the partitioning wrong I could have lost the files I had on my SSD or HDD before installing Mint? That's difficult to answer as I wasn't privy to exactly what you did. Can you attach a gparted screenshot of your partitions for sda and...

Re: Windows doesn't boot after installing Linux Mint

You would first maneuver to the file system where you would see folders bin, boot etc, etc.

The folder list will also show mnt - that's what you want to choose to get to the win folders/files.

As far as backing up you would just copy your stuff to another storage media, preferably an external HDD.

Re: Windows doesn't boot after installing Linux Mint

Before you do anything else, backup anything important from your win partition, In the terminal paste sudo mount -t ntfs-3g -o defaults,noatime,utf8,dmask=002,fmask=111,uid=1000,gid=1000 /dev/sda4 /mnt That will mount the win partition into the linux file tree then cd /mnt && ls to access the folder...

Hello Masonic_Theory https://thumb.ibb.co/dA8CQ8/hello.gif Welcome to Linux Mint and the Linux Mint forum :) In the world of linux sdb would be a block device (your HDD) and sdb1 would be the first partition on that device, sdb2 the next etc. First time users should use an option that allows the ins...

Re: Mint 17.3 low on disk space

Another alternative to finagling with the partitions or symlinks is to move the /home folder to that partition  sudo du -sh /home/ will show how much space that folder is using. I ran it and got 14gig. So you will essentially clear up 14gig of your mint filesystem and anything you save to the...

Re: How to change file date to creation date ?

If you used the cp command the -a option preserves the original time, same as rsync with the -a option.

Whatever you used, you didn't specify, should have an option to preserve the date/time of the original file.

Re: fsck an lvm volume?

I installed Mint 19 Cinnamon with full disk encryption (an encrypted LVM.). You have an encrypted system so you would first need to open the LUKS container from the installation USB to expose the filesystem with sudo /sbin/cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda5 sda5_crypt # sda5 matches the encrypted partit...

Unfortunately you did lose your data :( Your gparted screenshot does not show allocated space for your Mint installation.
