Re: Permission denied

First try sudo -i which will escalate to root privileges in the terminal then echo ON > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch

If you want to use tee and not the root privileged terminal then echo ON|sudo tee /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch

Re: cannot paste into wind*ws partition

It's most likely due to permission setting,

You might have to mount it from fstab or manually.

Paste back mount|grep ^/dev

bth73,

A fat32 filesystem does not store file user/group ownership or mode bits

Re: Emergency mode, failed mount /home I can not recover my data

Since the primary superblock is corrupted, the only thing to try is using an alternative superblock as explained in man e2fsck.

It also explains how to determine alternative superblocks using the mke2fs program.

Good luck

Re: Installed Mint 19 fresh, can't mount my external hard drive

I'm surprised to hear that it worked on a windows machine but wouldn't mount with ntfs-3g until you ran ntfsfix on it :?

In the end it seems all is good :D

Re: Installed Mint 19 fresh, can't mount my external hard drive

It is there so try creating a mountpoint for it with sudo mkdir /media/GoFlex

then mount it with sudo mount -t ntfs-3g -o defaults,noatime,utf8,dmask=002,fmask=111,uid=1000,gid=1000 /dev/sdb1 /media/GoFlex and check the mount again.

Re: fsck an lvm volume?

If you want to invoke badblocks from fsck then the "-c" would need to be added. I'm not sure if anything is moved, but if bad blocks are found, they are added to the bad block inode to prevent them from being allocated. You might wan to install smartmontools and gsmartcontrol to check on the health ...

Re: fsck an lvm volume?

Mount count: 28 Maximum mount count: -1 Does it show the fsck while in progress or does it take place behind the splash screen? If it did it it was very fast, faster than I would have expected on a 1 terabyte drive. I'm not sure if it would show as I disable the splash screen, but I can see it didn...

Re: fsck an lvm volume?

An fsck can be very quick if there are no problems.

To check if it was done paste back sudo tune2fs -l /dev/mapper/mint--vg-root|egrep 'Mount\ count|Maximum\ mount'

The easiest way to run fsck is to sudo touch /forcefsck in the terminal then reboot

Re: File move - not by links?

If the file was newly created at the new location then it would have a different inode assignment. You can check it with ls -i as follows [bill@XPS] ~/Downloads $ ls -i 20160331_112417.mp4 1072321 20160331_112417.mp4* [bill@XPS] ~/Downloads $ mv 20160331_112417.mp4 ../ '20160331_112417.mp4' -> '../2...
