Re: How to change file date to creation date ?

If you used the cp command the -a option preserves the original time, same as rsync with the -a option.

Whatever you used, you didn't specify, should have an option to preserve the date/time of the original file.

Re: fsck an lvm volume?

I installed Mint 19 Cinnamon with full disk encryption (an encrypted LVM.). You have an encrypted system so you would first need to open the LUKS container from the installation USB to expose the filesystem with sudo /sbin/cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda5 sda5_crypt # sda5 matches the encrypted partit...

Re: Through own stupidity not able to boot Mint anymore

Unfortunately you did lose your data :( Your gparted screenshot does not show allocated space for your Mint installation. If should look like this showing a crypt-luks partition for an encrypted system. Remember he's on a live USB and hasn't unlocked the encrypted partition yet, so it's normal you ...

Re: Partioning advice dualboot LM18.3 and 19

Just to clarify the partitioning, the 4th would be the extended partition where you would then setup the logical partitions. I sort of misspoke in my first post. Also you can't mix gpt and msdos partitions on a disk. The disk is either gpt or msdos partitioned. And yes you can use the same /swap for...

Re: Through own stupidity not able to boot Mint anymore

Hello linux-nu-bee https://thumb.ibb.co/dA8CQ8/hello.gif Welcome to Linux Mint and the Linux Mint forum :) If you did resize from a running system you might have damaged the filesystem. You can try running blkid|grep ext2 to identify the boot partition designation then try e2fsck -fvy /dev/sda1 from...

Re: Partioning advice dualboot LM18.3 and 19

MyM,

What you're attempting sounds feasible.

Resize/move and create your partitions from the live session and make sure you can boot 18 before installing 19.

You will only need one logical partition for home as that would be your 4th primary.

Good luck

Re: error message when booting Tara

zorglubu,

Is the file there :?:

Paste back ls -lh /etc/profileand ls -lh /usr/share/base-files/profile and diff /usr/share/base-files/profile /etc/profile

The diff command should not produce any results.

Re: Permission denied

First try sudo -i which will escalate to root privileges in the terminal then echo ON > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch

If you want to use tee and not the root privileged terminal then echo ON|sudo tee /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
