Re: troubles getting vbox to work dkms

This package virtualbox-guest-dkms is not correct - it's for a VB installed Mint What you want is virtualbox-dkms So sudo apt-get purge virtualbox-guest-dkms && sudo apt-get install virtualbox-dkms should take care of it. You also might want to install virtualbox-guest-additions-iso for additional ...

Re: troubles getting vbox to work dkms

No, I did do that, after making a mistake with s, I did it with S, please look again. OK, I probably missed it. I'm running 18.3 and have VB 5.1.34 so when I saw VB 5.2.10 i just needed to verify your Mint version. I see dkms was able to build the modules, but for some reason cannot install them. I...

Re: troubles getting vbox to work dkms

You returned inxi -s which is pretty much useless in this context - use a capital -S with inxi -S

Re: grsync wants to copy ~/.wine files all the time.

You can eliminate some of the options using the -a or --archive imstead of -r -t -p -o

Try the -u option (skip files that are newer on the receiver)

Re: grsync wants to copy ~/.wine files all the time.

You didn't show the most important piece of the puzzle, namely the rsync directive. It could be the time stamp difference with windows if wine is a true emulator. From the rsync man page --modify-window When comparing two timestamps, rsync treats the timestamps as being equal if they differ by no mo...

Re: Timed out waiting for device error

The entry in /etc/fstab for your EFI partition is incorrect. The entry is UUID= 97B5-0DE1 /boot/efi vfat defaults 0 1 and the partition UUID as shown by blkid is 73F2-D991 So edit your /etc/fstab file and change UUID= 97B5-0DE1 /boot/efi vfat defaults 0 1 to UUID= 73F2-D991 /boot/efi vfat defaults 0...

Hello SuddenButterfly Image

Welcome to Linux Mint and the Linux Mint forum :)

It's trying to mount a partition that doesn't exist.

Paste back the results of sudo blkid and grep -v ^# /etc/fstab

Re: Making custom bootable USB from existing install

I've already done this and it's explained here

The cloned system was a running Mate desktop that then booted from the USB drive and the same process was used to transfer it to a laptop.

Re: Recovering contents of an external hard drive inadvertantly written over with dd command

WharfRat and rene, Thank you for quick responses. Can you elaborate on your recovery methods? Julianvb Well as I've already stated I had to restore the contents from backups. I didn't see it feasible to try and restore individual files and file remnants with a disk recovery utility since there were...

Re: Saving contents of an external hard drive inadvertantly written over with dd command

I'm embarrassed to say that coincidentally I dd'd a Mint iso to my internal sdc device two months ago

The only recovery method that worked for me was from backups

Re: Bad Signature

It is odd that the 64bit version checks out OK, but the 2bit version doesn't :? The only thing I can suggest is since the 64bit version is 100% verified, install that version then use the linux tools/procedures to verify the 32bit version Or you should be able to verify the 32bit version by just run...

Re: Cloning a hard disk - In search of best practice

I'm not sure if dd is the best practice for cloning disks, but I've cloned several disks using it with no problems.

Just clone the entire disk then you can manipulate/resize the partitions of the new one,
