Re: Made changes to /etc/cups/cupsd.conf need a clean/new file

The cupsd post installation copies the file /usr/share/cups/cupsd.conf.default to /etc/cups/cupsd.conf so all you need to do is

sudo cp /usr/share/cups/cupsd.conf.default /etc/cups/cupsd.conf

Hello MyM http://af-templates.s3.amazonaws.com/images/smilies/sp/hello.gif Welcome to Linux Mint and the Linux Mint forum :) Accessing your files on the 1TB hdd will not be a problem. There's no need to setup a /home partition on it to have access to it. A /home partition can be retrofitted post ins...

Re: [Solved] Why would I get repeating characters in terminal?

If there wasn't a patch for that problem I would have recommended blacklisting that module until it was addressed, but I see you have things under control

Re: Memory missing in system monitor and system info

Everything looks good and there's no doubt that you have 16 GB of memory. As far as what application, nothing in particular right now What I meant was what is the name of the application that incorrectly depicts your system memory :?: System info shows 6.8 gb I don't have an application of that name...

Re: Solved - Monitoring Data Usage

Check the file names in /var/lib/vnstat/ and use vnstat -d -i enp0s31f6 which is my interface name - so change enp0s31f6 to your interfaces name.

Hello strat4tony Image

Welcome to Linux Mint and the Linux Mint forum :)

It would help if you provided your system information with sudo inxi -Fzxm and also the name of the application you're running,

Re: Solved - Monitoring Data Usage

The instruction page referencing vnstat --islist is a typo - it should be vnstat --iflist

vnstat -d and vnstat -m are useful too.

Re: Solved - Monitoring Data Usage

I recall having to edit /etc/vnstat.conf and change eth0 to enp0s31f6 which is what my wired interface ends-up as.

I wish the developers would have stuck with eth0 :(

Re: (SOLVED)How to backup encrypted LM hard disk?

I don't know your particular circumstances so ultimately it's your decision whether or not to use encryption.

You might just want to consider the difficulty you experienced retrieving your files and if you would want to go through that again.

Re: Monitoring Data Usage

I really haven't looked into it that much as I don't have to worry about usage limits - it was mostly out of curiosity. There are a couple of sites like https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/vnstat-network-monitoring-ubuntu/ that provide an intro. I'm guessing you have to play with it as there seems t...

Re: Why would I get repeating characters in terminal?

The problem happens as soon as I switch to a virtual console, and so I am unable to log in to any of them because there is always at least one "^@" after the login prompt. What happens if you hit [enter] for the login name then again for the initial password - does it then show login incorrect and ...

Re: Linux Mint - Double Encryption?

I guess it all depends on who/what you're trying to protect yourself from.

If you opt to install the full encrypted system you can also elect to encrypt /home so it is done/doable.

Most likely if you use a strong password for your first encryption level the additional levels would be superfluous
