Re: Does Youtube-dl not work anymore?

What I noticed is that with Mint 20, python isn't installed where youtube-dl thinks it should be. trying to run youtube-dl returns the error: /usr/bin/env: ‘python’: No such file or directory doing a #sudo apt-get install Python3 returns: python3 is already the newest version (3.8.2-0ubuntu2) To fi...

Re: Random slow boot Mint 19.3 (how I fixed it)

I fixed my slow boot-shutdown problems, thought I'd pass this on. I'm running Mint 19.3 Tricia, Cinnamon Desktop on a Dell 1545 Laptop. I've been having slow boot and shutdown problems for a while. Studying the system logs and monitoring the boot process (no Splash) didn't help. I didn't notice anyt...

Re: [TUTORIAL] Installing Mint on a Windows 8/8.1/10 Computer

Thanks gold_finger for the tutorial. I was active with MS up until XP, which is when I discovered Ubuntu & Mint so the tutorial was a great reference & help. I just installed Mint 18.2 on my 84 year old Aunt's Dell Laptop 15-5000 with no problems at all by following your well written tutoria...

Re: Cell Phone Won't Mount

Many thanks for this seasoned_geek. I'm running Mint 17.1, my Doro phone mounted & I transferred photos the first time I tried it. But it never would after that.
Following your fix solved the problem.

Thank you Karl, never looked there (bookmarks-edit), every time I sorted it out manually - it ended up in the videos folder again.

Re: Printing set-up solution for canon pixma iP90 printer

Years ago I had the same problem with Mint & Canon Pixma iP90. I found that plugging the printer in to the USB, the system will see the printer and it will start searching for drivers. I cancel the search, then just click forward. You'll get to a list of printers, Canon will probably be selected...

Re: "keys:Press C to cancel all checks in progress" every re

Hi - I've just recently started having the same problem.
Computer is a 5 year old Dell 1545, Mint 16 installed, separate system/home partitions.
Running the above commands worked fine.
Several reboots/restarts and so far....so good.

Many thanks....

Re: FREEZING

I'll keep watching, as soon as Mint 13 is released I'll install it & see how it goes. I've installed Mint 8, 9, 10, 11, & 12 on many friends and relatives computers over quite a few years with very few problem (they're still friends!). The reason I use Mint is because, unlike Ubuntu, it didn...

Re: FREEZING

Hello, I have been having screen-computer freezes for quite some time with Mint-12 but not 11 or 10, they worked fine. Control+Backspace and REISUB did nothing. Meanwhile the cooling fans are running at or near full speed indicating a heavy CPU load. I was having to power off/on each time. I have tr...

Re: LMDE (stable) Firefox5 from MU error

I'm running (LMDE - locked to) Squeeze Stable. I had the same exact problem, update to FireFox 5 and It didn't work. I uninstalled FF 5.0 and updated Iceweasel from the repositories. When I click Help-> About Iceweasel, I get the following. "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.16) ...

Re: Anyone still tracking stable (squeeze)

Hi, I locked to Stable-Sqeeze in early March. I had one problem but I'm not sure it's a OS problem or not. My keyboard appeared to be faulty, I had to use xvkbd while another one was ordered - however before it arrived it "fixed" itself and is still working. This is on a Dell Inspiron 1545...

Re: Can we improve MintUpdate?

Hi Folks, I have been using MintUpdate levels 1,2,3 on LMDE with no problems (so far). After reading the update discussion I enabled levels 4 & 5 in MintUpdate and then went to synaptic and checked the upgradable packages for comparison. They are identical. I then checked and found that VLC and ...

Hello, I found this tutorial on the clonezilla site, I have backed up all partitions on my hard disk (sda). I have a separate root -home - Backtrac 4 and XP partitions. Re: Fix for an issue "Fix Broken Packages"

Hi Everyone, I had the same "fix broken packages first" notice when installing all updates at once. I first tried installing half but that didn't work either. Trial & error led me to doing 20 at the time - that worked fine. I also inadvertently ended up with Libre Office replacing Open...

Shutdown and Bootup times are quick and clean. Wireless works on USB External (RTL 8187 Chip) and Broadcom internal card (using STA Driver...

Re: Could not grab your mouse

This also happened to me. But when I closed the side pane (on the left side of the Menu when it opens) the problem disappeared. Also sometimes the Package manager wouldn't open, I never saw the password window and I had to click outside the menu to close it. All of this appears to be working normall...

Hi All, Well, I thought Mintupdate was working but unfortunately it quit again. I get the password window OK. Then I get the grayed out window while it checks the internet connection, gets the rules and checks for updates. That's where it stops, I've waited for hours but no joy there. I've once agai...
