Re: Why Some Truetype Fonts Render Poorly...

Just about the only Truetype fonts I use are ones which ship with LM or are in the repositories, and of course the Microsoft Core Fonts. Everything else for me are strictly OpenType fonts using PostScript for the outline data.

I've never really been much of a fan of Truetype.

PS...i tend to run the unit almost 24/7 in the summer and still have not had an electric bill over 48 dollars a month. this months bill was only 37.00
That is significantly less than any electric bill I have in any month.

Re: Air Conditioner Vs Air Cooler

I have a 1400 ft² (130 m²) house. Unless it was a centralized system like my AC is, I don't know if it would really be all that useful. Again, I don't know anything about this from first-hand experience, so I really can't comment. I'm not sure whether anything but an AC would be to building code her...

I'm not really sure what you are talking about.
You mean you don't know what an air cooler is ?

I guess I do now.

Re: Air Conditioner Vs Air Cooler

I'm not really sure what you are talking about. I live in Florida and it would be virtual suicide not to have air conditioning, particularly in the late spring/early summer -> late fall/early winter time frame. Realistically, the only time of the year one can easily get by without running their AC i...

Re: Huawei Continues To Feel The Screws Tightening...

Huawei has 56,492 patents and it is not afraid to use them: Not so much with respect to Huawei specifically, but this is an example of the patenting system run amuck. There is no possible way they could have 56,492 patents on patent-worthy things. In fact, I agree with others who have said there sh...

Re: Cell Phone Compatibility?

I was running an Android OS-based smartphone since before I even thought about running GNU+Linux full time, starting with a Samsung Moment and up through my most recent upgrade to a Moto G7. Mac OS X required installing drivers because Apple doesn't give a f#€! about supporting anything they don't m...

Re: Huawei Continues To Feel The Screws Tightening...

Personally, I wish Huawei products were available in the US. While I am concerned about the espionage angle, I am more concerned about the same sort of behavior from domestic companies and companies the US government considers to be "The Good Guys." What concerns me the most is companies are able "...

Re: Why Some Truetype Fonts Render Poorly...

The entire point of this thread is education and perspective enrichment. I know what I wrote above is probably TL;DR for some, but I want people here on LMF to have the ability to broaden their knowledge horizons. I'm willing to bet that even many GNU+Linux developers, whether attached to the LM pro...

Re: Microsoft and Linux

This may be of interest to some libre Software developers, but it's doubtless of little interest to most others simply because people who are not at all into GNU+Linux won't be using it unless their job demands it, and those of us running some particular distro on bare metal have no reason to try us...

Re: What ?

Microsoft is trying to gain credibility and build a narrative that it is a good member of the libre community. This is all very preparatory stuff, along with imbedding themselves in key places like the Linux Foundation board. They want to trick people into thinking they're trying to help society, wh...

Re: What ?

I highly doubt the Microsoft leadership is stupid enough to think the GNU+Linux community is going to embrace them, though I suppose there's a reasonable chance this is connected with their recent announcement to build their browser based around the Chrome browser core. Would I use it? Well, for any...

Re: Not Linux, this is the famous Windows OS intentionally breaking your Bluetooth devices

Setting aside for the moment certain fundamental "philosophical issue" differences, I think the most important thing we can do as a community is take a page out of Apple's playbook circa "Mac vs. PC" and "Think Different" and do what we can to show people out there that there does exist a credible a...

Re: Do you use distros till its EOL ?

I have never EOL'd a distro.

In fact, the closest I've ever come to EOL'ing any OS is on a couple of my Android phones. Even back in the day with my first Mac, I bought a newer, more capable system well before System 6 EOL'd post 6.0.8.
