Re: Dyslexia and computers

Many, many years ago, I worked for OfficeMax and I can remember very well having a customer having me take red, green, and blue Astrobright color sheets and making color copies into transparency material. This had the effect of creating pastels of those colors. Another customer and his son came up t...

Re: Something wrong with the pricing?

Printer companies are absolutely no different than any other modern era business: they use arbitrage in order to profit off the backs of the third-world workforce who are just trying to survive and put food on the table like anyone else by exploiting the fact they can pay them nothing for product wi...

HD Audio (VoLTE) shows up on Straight Talk...

I don't know exactly when they started it, but this past week, the U.S. MVNO Straight Talk has turned on (or at least started to?) HD Audio for phone calls. For those who are not hip to all of this... Several years ago, cell carriers came up with a standard for sending near-CD-quality audio for phon...

Re: Encrypting home partition using Veracrypt

Hello linuxheid ! I have installed Veracrypt what seems to have been without issue. However I repeatedly get this error message when I try to encrypt the Home partition: I'm not going to try and comment on why what you're doing isn't working, since I really don't know whether it is workable to begin...

Re: Metadata (tag) Editor for Video... Is there one?

I should probably also add the following...

I really like EasyTAG, and I use it for very basic video file metadata tag editing, but the problem is it simply doesn't support any of the video-specific tags (like season, plot synopsis, etc.) and that's very frustrating.

Not here, no, but I don't use it.

Metadata (tag) Editor for Video... Is there one?

I'm trying to find a tag editor, something along the lines of EasyTag, which lets me fully edit metadata for video files and not just audio ones. I've already searched this message board as well as the software manager, and I'm not finding anything. Does anyone know if perhaps I'm overlooking the ob...

Is anyone else having problems with Startpage.com?

On the recommendation of others here on LMF, I've set up Startpage.com as my default search engine. However, lately I've noticed I'm having problems. If I go directly to https://www.startpage.com/ and execute a query there, I get search results. However, when Firefox passes the query from something ...

Re: IBM and Canonical work together in financial services

Remember, all the major tech corps have had UNIX-like OSs, starting with AT&T, HP with their HP-UX, and so forth. None of these companies at this point need to be "sold on" the idea of being a part of a libre-licensed, POSIX-compliant UNIX-like OS. The thing is, they have interests in running it on...

(For example it means that if one convinces the world that the colour red should really be called "black" then the label is changed without altering the referent, and red becomes black.)
Does that mean black is the new red?

Re: Security Notice: CVE-2019-17080

Summary mintinstall (aka Software Manager) 7.9.9 for Linux Mint allows code execution if a REVIEWS_CACHE file is controlled by an attacker, because an unpickle occurs . [Emphasis added.] An “unpickle”? Y'know, I've been a technology enthusiast since 1986, and I've heard a lot of interesting terms (...

Re: Codex Leicester and Leonardo Da Vinci

For me, da Vinci is on a short list of truly great independent thinkers who singularly made massive contributions to our civilization. I wonder what he would think of the modern world. Along similar-ish lines, I just read Gil Gerard has been attached to a new Buck Rogers project as a producer, title...
