Re: No-sim mobile phone
If the phone doesn't have cell service, it won't have a cell number, and without that, I don't believe you can register a WhatsApp account.

Re: I hate Texas right now
I'm not really sure what water conservation has to do with any of this, but (to reiterate the point from the quote) you have to have people willing to acknowledge two things:
1. There actually is a problem to be dealt with; and
2. Something can be done about it

A little over a year ago, I went back to work in the tech sector for ████████ ¹ doing remote call center tech support, and I've come to the point where I just can't stand supporting commercial corporate software. It couldn't be made more plain how utterly money- and control-grubbing corporations suc...

I hope Texans have air conditioners. Florida isn't as bad as Texas or the American southwest, to be fair, but it's not exactly cool here, either. Maybe if we actually cared enough about global warming (and enough of the population believed it's real) we'd put money behind dealing with it. We were wi...

Re: Desktop Operating System Market Share Worldwide
The truth is it doesn't make any difference what Microsoft does. They could put out a pair of lead shoes filled with dung, call it Windows, and people would still buy it because most folk: Don't know any better; Have no clue what "Windows" really is, they just buy a computer set up to run ...

While I assume there's got to be some differences between different whiskeys, what I have discovered (much to my alarm) is that with Bullet Whiskey, I actually start to get mean and very short- and foul-tempered.
Any other alcohol, I'm a happy-go-lucky guy.

Who knew that the return of the Portreve would begin with such an auspicious and à propos thread as this... Microsoft has never , ever been about quality, but getting there first and setting themselves up in the catbird seat so as to make everyone around them as helplessly dependent upon them as po...

Re: Linux Mint 21.1 “Vera” Cinnamon – BETA Release
It should now only be a matter of time before the final release ISOs are posted to the mirrors. EDIT: While the official announcement is yet to be made, ISOs for the final release are starting to appear on the mirrors. I have downloaded and done a fresh install of LM Cinnamon 21.1 and so far it's wo...

Linux Mint on Mastodon... ?
I just wanted to find out if this or any other presently-existing LM search result on Mastodon is legitimate and official. I do not wish to be on any other social media platform.

According to your screenshot there is no Linux installed. All I see is some unallocated space where you can install Linux, but the thread title says ' an existing Dual boot config '. You then go on to say " I apologize in advance because this screenshot does not actually include a Linux Mint i...

How do I do a Clean Install of LM in an Existing Dual-Boot Configuration?
In this post , I said I was going to ask for help with learning a better way to prep for doing a fresh installation. I'm going to start by laying out my usual scenario, and follow that up with what specifically I want to learn how to do. The Scenario... I'm using an HP ENVY TE01-0014 which original...

Hello everyone, I used GMail for many years and everything always worked well. However, I despise Google for many reasons and wanted to switch to a privacy-focused alternative. After a long selection process, I became a Mailfence customer. However, I am very dissatisfied. I have experienced countle...

BTW, I've looked all over and haven't found any word on a release date. Is it posted somewhere or generally known yet? The goal is before Christmas. Barring unforeseen disasters, of course.... Linux Mint does not have set release dates. Clem will announce the release on the Linux Mint Blog. If you ...

There's a story I've heard that after the movie "Deliverance" came out, there was a sudden resurgence of popularity in banjos. There were then all these get-together meetings with banjo players from all over, but nobody tuned their banjos the same, so it was very difficult for them to play...

Re: My hellish nightmare trying to migrate to a new drive
Personally, I would have powered down the system and disconnected the old SSD (to keep it out of harm's way and to prevent any sort of setup utility from becoming distracted), connected the new SSD, attached the flash drive with the live image on it, and then done a full clean install on it. Afterwa...
