What program or browser are you using when you get no sound? Have you tried any other sound sources, media player, etc. to see if they work?

Do you have a function key that could be muting the sound?... Like fn F8 on this keyboard setup. On another recent installation, I had to adjust some advanced controls to get the playback volume turned up even though the primary control was turned up.

Did you try to adjust the display settings on the PC to match the new profile settings that are working? Which Distro are you using?

To reinstall with added space might be the easiest without screwing up your 7 and that way you could set-up to use USB storage as home - just a thought

Do you have the latest Flash Plugin installed? If that's not up to date, sites like YouTube, using flash player will not respond correctly. Just a thought.
