Re: How to enable screen lock after SUSPEND
That option is near the bottom of the Screensaver settings. It worked. Thanks. Btw, whoever implemented it did a bad job describing it coz "Lock screen when screensaver is active" doesn't really make sense in this particular case. Activating the screensaver & putting the PC into suspe...

Re: The reason I replaced Lubuntu with Linux Mint |||Avoid SNAP||
I don't know if LM uses the Ubuntu package, or direct from Mozilla. I do know there are some LM specific customizations. I don't monitor Ubuntu vs. LM release dates, but do know that LM does keep up with Firefox updates in a timely manner. Okay, if I am getting Firefox asap after Mozilla releases a...

Re: The reason I replaced Lubuntu with Linux Mint |||Avoid SNAP||
@Moem Read that entire thread but since its locked I am replying here. So after Ubuntu decided to turn Chromium into a snap LM started to package Chromium, This is great news coz I hope the same approach will taken for Firefox too. I am curoius about one more thing. Does LM 20 pull Firefox directly ...

The reason I replaced Lubuntu with Linux Mint |||Avoid SNAP||
I read articles & watched videos on Youtube which says that from Ubuntu 21.10 Firefox too will be offered as a snap package. I am paranoid about security & I have read many articles which suggests that snap is not good for security. Q1) The idea that Firefox's code in its current .deb for is...

Re: After installing LM20 with Full Disk Encryption & rebooting I found that the NUM PAD is not working
As for ubuntu - what version? 20.10 or 21.04 perhaps? I was using Lubuntu 20.04. I moved to Linux Mint coz I am paranoid about security & I don't want a single snap package on my system. So if both Lubuntu 20.04 & Linux Mint 20.04 are using the same repos I fail to understand why the differ...

Re: After installing LM20 with Full Disk Encryption & rebooting I found that the NUM PAD is not working
It's because the internal LUKS drivers are written to be minimal, so only tend to care about the "standard 84 keys" (well, on an en_us keyboard anyway. international keyboards may have more "standard" keys). Don't you think that's a bad idea ? Besides under Lubuntu I was able to...

After installing LM20 with Full Disk Encryption & rebooting I found that the NUM PAD is not working
After installing LM20 with Full Disk Encryption & rebooting I found that the NUM PAD is not working. I pressed the Num Lock key many times but the LED on the keyboard did not glow at all. I had set the same passphrase that I was using with Lubuntu. The passphrase was very long & it included ...

Play a custom sound alert for Facebook notifications
Hi, I don't use a smartphone. I do my entire web browsing including Facebook on my desktop. When someone sends a message on Facebook I hear the default sound which Facebook offers but the sound is too short & too weak. I found this addon >> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/notifica...

Re: [Ksnip=SOLVED] [speedtest-cli=still broken] Ksnip & speedtest-cli not workin
Without using sudo (which is the preferred method), the binary got installed in $HOME/.local/bin, which is probably not in your $PATH. Logout, then back on - the $HOME/.local/bin directory should be automatically added to the $PATH. For now, to test, run this from the terminal: $HOME/.local/bin/spe...

Re: [Ksnip=SOLVED] [speedtest-cli=still broken] Ksnip & speedtest-cli not workin
For speedtest-cli , remove the repo version and do this: pip install --user speedtest-cli This will install speedtest-cli in $HOME/.local/bin. If you want to install it for everyone, try this: sudo pip install speedtest-cli Please don't take this in a wrong way. Is that method safe in terms of secu...

Re: Ksnip & speedtest-cli not working
@spamegg
Just downloaded the Ksnip appimage & its working.
Don't want to add any 3rd party sources for security reasons so I have avoided the speedtest-cli repo. I will just use the web interface.
Thanks.

@rene//@DisturbedDragon
Thanks to both for the replies.
DisturbedDragon, you said I need the "correct" image. Is there any fully opensource android image I can install on this device ? Just like there is DD-WRT for routers. Does anything like that exist ?

Re: I cant find a single USB Bluetooth adapter which is both compatible & affordable
@GS3 I use my desktop to stream Youtube. I use a bluetooth headphone if its late in the night. Some of my neighbours are senior citizens who go to bed early so I can't use my speakers. I already have a USB bluetooth adapter which I purchased 10 years ago. It didn't disappoint me in terms of longevit...

There are a few Bluetooth adapter available on Amazon which are manufactured by reputed brands & are affordable too. Example : https://www.amazon.in/TP-Link-Bluetooth-Nano-Adapter-UB400/dp/B07NQ5YGDW/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=usb+bluetooth+adapter&qid=1618045900&sr=8-3 But if you ...

Re: This problem is killing me .... Can someone please explain ?
@Kudalufi / @Hoser Rob Frankly I don't understand what you guys mean here. Based on my limited understanding LMDE uses the Debian Stable repos. What the Linux Mint team adds is the theming. So if LMDE is using the Debian Stable repos how is LMDE less stable than vanilla Debian ? By the way there is ...

@LanceM
I am not trying argue. I want to ask a question. As I mentioned that grub error disappeared after the did a Timeshift restore. Do you still think resetting the bios instead of doing a Timeshift restore or a complete reinstall would have worked ?
