Re: "gnome-shell : Depends: gjs (>=1.35.4) but it is not goi

That's strange. One of my virtual machines with LMDE has both MDM and gjs 1.36 installed, so they can coexist. Did aptitude offer any other options? Yes, I tried a couple of the options it offered. First, removing mdm - still gave issues even with gdm3.. Then I attempted the other option it gave wh...

Re: "gnome-shell : Depends: gjs (>=1.35.4) but it is not goi

Try aptitude, it will tell you more about the dependencies: sudo aptitude -t testing install gnome-shell Good Idea... I've stayed clear of aptitude for a couple years. It looks like if I remove mdm it will work..Got the following option: The following actions will resolve these dependencies: Remove...

Re: "gnome-shell : Depends: gjs (>=1.35.4) but it is not goi

Morning Monsta! Thanks for the reply. Yes, I saw that before I did the upgrade but unfortunately that didn't resolve the issue. When I try to install the older version I get the following: $ sudo apt-get install -t testing gnome-shell libgjs0c gjs Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tr...

"gnome-shell : Depends: gjs (>=1.35.4) but it is not going to be

Wow.... It's been about a month since I upgraded (I had noticed there were about 900+ packages to be updated so I held off until I was at home). Well, now I'm no longer able to get a graphical desktop. Tried the debian-system-adjustments fix, no go.. Determined my gnome-shell was a problem.. At the ...

Issue changing .mp4 default video player

I have one other issue since moving from the old original LMDE on Gnome 3/Gnome Shell to LMDE Cinnamon with Gnome Shell added. I've noticed that I can change the default player for .mkv and .avi fine but when I attempt to change the default player for .mp4 it doesn't take. Right click on the video, ...

Re: Gnome Menu Editor Missing

IIRC, Gnome's menu editor is called Alacarte and has to be installed separately. I don't see anything wrong in using Cinnamon's menu editor though :) :) No, Cinnamon's menu editor seemed to work fine! I'm still trying to get used to the new Mint LMDE (Cinnamon based). I was very leary of it since I...

Re: hunspell-en-us upgrade removes mint-meta-debian-cinnamon

Your sources.list is missing this entry: deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import And so apt-get tries to get the updated hunspell-en-us from the Testing snapshot. As Homer would say: Doh! LOL - Thanks... I realized what I did as soon as I saw this. I left that line co...

Re: hunspell-en-us upgrade removes mint-meta-debian-cinnamon

Did you do anything with the preferences file? http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=198&t=133066#p715923 No, I left it default (I have it removed on my other LMDE installs, following Testing and Sid) but left it as it was installed on this new one. Gnome Menu Editor Missing

I noticed after I installed Gnome Shell in LMDE Cinnamon that the "Menu Editor" is missing. I found out when I installed Google Chrome, it didn't show up in the menu and I tried to find Menu Editor. :-) I used Cinnamon Menu Editor and it seemed to work OK but I was curious if that is what should be ...

hunspell-en-us upgrade removes mint-meta-debian-cinnamon, et

I just noticed that the hunspell-en-us upgrade is wanting to remove mint-meta-debian-cinnamon and thunderbird . I've held off on the upgrade for now! sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Calculating upgrade... Done The fol...

Re: Adding Gnome 3/Shell in LMDE 201303?

It took me long enough to finally get around to testing this. :-) GeneC, I pretty much did like you. I kept it with MDM and just installed gnome-shell (and it's various and sundry parts). I also fixed the issue with nautilus by keeping nemo and just making nautilus links to each of the nemo commands...

Re: Adding Gnome 3/Shell in LMDE 201303?

Many Thanks for the help ZeroZero and GeneC! I should have some time this weekend to get it set up. I think I'll do my tests in a Virtual Machine first and then do it for real. :-) The main reason I want to stay with real Gnome (3/shell) instead of Cinnamon or Mate is the renaming of the programs. T...

Re: Adding Gnome 3/Shell in LMDE 201303?

Many Thanks GeneC! I'll give that a shot. I've stuck with Gnome Shell since it came out (I'm still running the original LMDE from 2010 on my main laptop, pointing to debian testing repo's and with Gnome 3/shell and I love it). With all of the extensions available these days, I have it set up even be...

Adding Gnome 3/Shell in LMDE 201303?

--begin edit-- OK, I decided against moving this 'new' system over to Debian Testing repo's just yet. It looked like it would end up breaking a number of things. :-) So I'll keep that one system on the update-packs. So....With keeping it on the update packs, what would be the best way to get Gnome 3...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jul 19th

GregE (and zerozero), Thanks for the kernel tips and heads-up on a couple problems to watch for. For now, I think I'll stick with the debian kernel (probably experimental) on my main machines and try out Liqourix (and maybe others) on some of my VM's for testing. Thanks again! would that tend to be ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jul 19th

That 'is' going to be a pretty big jump. I've been thinking about moving to one of the aforementioned kernels (Liquorix/Siduction/Aptosid) recently. Maybe now would be a good time to look into it. It seems that Liquorix gets a good bit of love around here; would that tend to be the most recommended ...
