Re: Beginners guide to SSD

Just to let you know, the SSD duly arrived, I popped it into the laptop, did a quick check that it would load linux LMDE of a USB stick which it did, partitioned it for NTFS for you know what which got loaded first and then shrunk to leave sufficient space for LMDE2 which is now running. No hitches ...

Re: Beginners guide to SSD

I think I should be OK from what you say. Three four years max it's running an I7 chip. It's a Sony and the BIOS is not that configurable. I've got a Crucial BX200 coming which I understand is not the best available but hopefully will do for me Thanks for the help, I suspect I may be back for some m...

Re: Beginners guide to SSD

Thank you :-)

Are these SSD drives detected by the BIOS when they're plugged in, or do they require some preparation before they will be read and recognized. I'm fine with partitioning etc but I've only done this on the standard HDD?

Beginners guide to SSD

This is really a request for assistance so apologies if this is the wrong place. Admin, please move it if you want to place it elsewhere. I'm considering buying an SSD to overcome some of my problems with a rather 'hot' running laptop. Is there a beginners' guide to installing LMDE on to an SSD. I'v...

Suspend works but only to re-boot

My new to me laptop will suspend OK but, it will never recover to the page I was on. It will simply re-boot. Apart from being awkward, I'm worried that the rather abrupt re-boot is not exactly good for my system? Which program is responsible for administering the suspend and can I adjust it to instr...

HDMI problem

Getting to grips with a new laptop sony VPCF11C5E if it helps. HDMI connection displays the screen but not the desktop icons OR if it does, no video apps will display UNLESS I select duplicate screen. Then it will display on both. Is this normal? I've noted that the video card is nvidia and I've dow...

Re: Firefox thunderbird not responding

Thanks.
Have followed instructions and everything still works, always a good sign, and I will have to wait to see whether or not the problem reoccurs.

Firefox thunderbird not responding

I am getting an increasing number of instances where I go to open a browser (firefox) and I'm told there is another instance open which is not responding and the error message tells me I can either wait or restart to solve the problem. In practice I've found that restarting is the only solution. The...

Re: Suspend not Working [solution found]

I too am having suspend problems. My laptop will suspend fine if I simply close the lid, which is fine, but for some reason when I press the power button it totally ignores it, even though I've set the power management system to suspend on pressing power button. This is not a major problem, but I wo...

Re: Accepting Flash Player update

I cannot say anything about the BBC site, but if they should support html5 it does not make sense, if they ask you to update flash. If you disable the flash plugin in firefox completely (setting it to always ask is not sufficient) and restart firefox afterwards, the browser behaves, as if no flash ...

Re: Accepting Flash Player update

try switching useragents to show that you have a Mac. That should convince the website to send HTML5 content instead of the obsolete Flash. Provided that the site supports html5, changing the user agent is not necessary (and probably not helping). All you have to do is disable the flash plugin in F...

Re: Accepting Flash Player update

Sorry, mistake by me, the word 'android' should not be there. (I sometimes get other issues using flash in my android) This is using the standard firefox browser within LMDE 2. Channel 4 requests me to update the flash plugin and that's what I need guidance on. Is it possible to play channel 4 video...

Accepting Flash Player update

Several sites I use request a flash player update, but I'm reluctant to do this as it will potentially mess up the existing system. The typical message I get is "To view this content you need to install or upgrade Adobe Flash Player" If a site like Channel 4 requires flash player update fo...

Channel 4 Player

This will only be of interest to UK viewers. I'm having difficulty, ie I can't, view channel 4 play back on demand. BBC iplayer and ITV hub are both fine, but for some reason, I'm assuming it's flash related, I can't get channel 4 to work. Any ideas? Has anybody else had/solved this problem? Cheers

Re: Hash sum mismatch error

Agreed, although in my defence, it has been correctly copied from the Jessie-backports page! Somehow I seem to have copied one address without the extra http into the sources.list file (not sure if I just automatically corrected that) but the listing in update manager has the full, incorrect looking...

Suspend not working [solved]

Having just had to reinstall I find that my power button will no longer put the laptop into suspend. What is odd is that if I set the power options to shut down, it will do this. But suspend, is just ignored. Is there anywhere I can look to try and sort this. update..... As this was a fairly recent ...

Re: Kodi

That just happened to me too. The upgrade installed kodi-dmo 5:14.2 which installed the old version of Kodi. I reinstall Kodi via backports, and it once again was at 15.2. The next time I ran Mint update I marked kodi-dmo 5:14.2 to be ignored. Seems to be working now. Seems the system needs a good ...
