Re: Brief Mint 11 Review and suggestions for Mint 12

sudo apt-get remove overlay-scrollbar liboverlay-scrollbar-0.1-0 The scrollbar decision is bad, bad, bad. Myself and nearly every review I've read online agree on this point. I don't know why anybody with a 1920x1080 42" monitor would begrudge the usefulness of the old scroll bar. Please, if you ta...

Re: What makes you want to try Linux in the first place?

I didn't like being dependent on Windows, I like the ideology of open source, installing libraries is very easy compared to Windows (try setting up SDL in Windows) and I thought it would be a good learning experience.

I also had nothing better to do....

Re: Should Linux Mint end it's reliance on Ubuntu?

I wouldn't mind seeing Linux Mint based on Debian only for the main edition. The hardest parts would probably be the transition to Debian, a lot of Mint software would have to be changed, a huge amount of tweaking, etc.. Not to mention that you lose a lot of the good features Ubuntu (Good installer,...

Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Released

I adored Unity (when I tried the Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 2.. like late last week) and I found it was very usable and nice. It still had a few things to tweak but it was very sleek. But I found the performance on my computer was horrible.. the frame rate for effects is 2-5FPS for effects and my computer fa...

Re: Mysql connection from Desktop

The only reason I can think for this occuring is because you accessing it from your home folder (which belongs to the user account you are using) it might not have privledges to access the MySQL daemon. Not too sure if this will work, but try to go to Users and Groups and press Manage Groups then fi...

Re: I need web hosting

Thank you for the tip.....I admit though I am mildly concerned that this is your first and only post. Do you work for them? Considering his username.. I think you're probably right. The web industry is filled with commissions. I could advertise one host you, say it's spectular, give a special link ...

Re: Peculiar Restart Problem in Windows XP but not in Linux

Having difficulties restarting is most likely not a hardware issue. If it was a hardware issue Linux Mint wouldn't be able to boot either. Though if you have a failing hard drive that could be the reason (I hear lot's of people saying with their failing hard drives, Linux can boot for a lot longer t...

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

Here's mine.. the conky theme I'm using is NightDrive. I haven't got it fully configured yet, it can't get the weather and it doesn't display song info yet. I normally have anime wallpapers, but this computer I use at school sometimes and don't want to look too geeky XD http://i979.removed/albums/ae...

Re: Sidebar

Screenlets will probably do what you're looking for. It's a very similar to Windows Gadgets (the things in the sidebar) and Mac's Widgets. I've never tried it though, but I heard of it a few times.

Re: Hello Minters

Oh ok I tried that it said no drivers to be installed I had to change the sound output setting under sound preferances Well normally all the drivers needed are included in the linux kernel (from what I understand). It's just if it's a proprietary/closed-source driver it might be known as a "Restric...

Just a typo.. I meant "graphic card driver notified". But what I'm meaning is after you install and when it requests you install drivers it found for you hardware.

Hello Minters

Hello, I'm Martenous. (My real name is Alex). I'm a 17 year old high school student. I have recently install Linux Mint 10 as an alternative to Windows 7. I will actually be uninstalling Windows 7 when I don't need to use an odd Windows program for school (it won't work in Wine. It's very weird). I ...
