Re: LMDE Cinnamon/MATE 201204 works PERFECTLY with openbox

I was just wondering, can I remove mate and cinnamon and all their applications? (except maybe notification and power manager, I can't configure those by myself LOL) RIght now I have a system like Swift LInux - superior hardware support and configuration thanks to Mint and the lightness of debian an...

Re: LMDE Cinnamon/MATE 201204 works PERFECTLY with openbox

No sorry, I guess it was unclear.

What I am doing is launching a standalone openbox session without mate.

I don't know about MATE plus openbox.

The mate apps like power manager and notifications just magically appear though and it's amazing. They don't need to be configured.

LMDE Cinnamon/MATE 201204 works PERFECTLY with openbox

For the openbox fans: It works perfectly on the new LMDE. Mint devs thank you and please keep it this way! Basically nothing needs to be configured if you like the MATE applications. You have yourself a power manager, file manager, network manager, everything. Just install and switch sessions and yo...

Re: Firefox and Thunderbird 12

No those methods don't work because libfontconfig1 2.9 is not in the testing repos. I think mozilla.debian.net just screwed up bigtime. Maybe someone should send them an email haha

Re: Firefox and Thunderbird 12

Aaargh!

Already, installing the debian mozilla recommended package from experimental for iceweasel is broken. I think the difference between LMDE and testing is already too big. xulrunner 12 cannot be installed....

Oh ok thanks, I will use this method. Didn't know it was that simple.

Re: Firefox and Thunderbird 12

firefox12 might take some time to come to lmde because is packaged by the mint team (there's no firefox in debian); if you want to stay absolutely uptodate add http://mozilla.debian.net/ to your sources.list and pick wheezy in the first drop-down box and release for the current version, or beta or ...

Re: Howto install LMDE with LVM (with or without encryption)

Guys, sorry to interject, is it possible to use this guide:

http://stolowski.blogspot.com/2011/06/d ... ition.html

to encrypt my home partition on LMDE Cinnamon? I do have a separate unencrypted home partition.

Thanks

Sweet. Opera was born to be used in LMDE.

Re: installing individual packages from debian website

Yeah I know that one.

But the Mint repo has the same Opera as the one in the Opera repo. It's that up-to-date. It' definitely not from UP3.

Re: installing individual packages from debian website

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I might just wait for UP4. (When is it coming?) Or I was thinking of switching to Opera. I noticed that it's bleeding edge in the Mint repos and way newer than UP3. The newest stable release in fact. So I guess software "independent" from the Debian system is updated out...

installing individual packages from debian website

Hi guys I'm trying to find a way to get an up-to-date chromium in LMDE UP3 and was wondering, is it safe to download and install wheezy packages individually from the debian website into my LMDE UP3 system. What is the official stance on this? Is there any risk at all? They're basically the same sys...

Re: Upgrade Firefox and Thunderbird on LMDE

Thanks for the answer.

But apart from overwriting to an older version (which I can fix again, manually), are there any other negative effects?

If no I'll just do it this way. If yes I have to install a third browser to be able to remove firefox in LMDE.

Re: Differences between Mint LXDE and Lubuntu

Isn't the biggest difference that Mint LXDE is based on the main edition of Mint and NOT Lubuntu? Is this true or not? If it is, it means Mint LXDE has the superior inner workings and hardware support of the mint main edition, and is more polished. Lubuntu is crap from this perpective because it's b...
