Re: Cinnamon PPA with Extensions(updated Feb 04)

I'm really loving Cinnamon. And thank you merlwiz, for all of your hard work on porting extensions. However, maybe I'm missing something: when I go to the Overview (ctrl-alt-down arrow), I just see my open windows. Shouldn't there be "Windows" and "Themes" menu options in the overview as well? I'm b...

Re: Mint 12 dual monitors waking up from gnome-screensaver h

Yes, a Dell Latitude laptop. When I manually start the screensaver with ctrl-shift-l, and then wiggle the mouse, I get the same problem.

BTW, my power settings are currently set to "Don't suspend".

Mint 12 dual monitors waking up from gnome-screensaver hangs

Mint 12, Gnome 3 and Cinnamon. I have a Dell Latitude with NVidia card, but am using the nouveau driver because it works better with dual monitors (but that's another story)... After I ctrl-shift-l to put the monitors blank, and later move my mouse or hit a key to attempt to get the login prompt, I ...

GenomeJB wrote:I had the same problem with Linux Mint 10, and removing gecko-media player (and mint-meta) allowed Chromium to connect to the internet.
I went ahead and did this as well. Chrome 11 now works. Don't know what losing the mint-meta package will do. Thanks!

Re: Hidden icons on panel

Try this. Click the Panel tool box icon in the far right corner. Hover over the System Tray widget and click the wrench. This will open the System Tray Settings dialog. Click Entries in the left pane. Change the visibility drop-downs for the entries you want to always see from Auto to Always Visible...

Re: Google Chrome/Chromium crashes on startup

Cool. Is it okay that Synaptic also wants to remove my mint-meta package as well? That doesn't sound good. I used 'Mark for removal' rather than 'Mark for complete removal', but other than that; I don't know why the mint-meta package would be touched. Yep, I select 'Mark for removal', but Synaptic ...

Re: What i expect from Mint KDE 11

Longtime Ubuntu Gnome user here. I've wanted to like KDE, I really have, because I think it's gorgeous. With the advent of Unity I've been looking for a new distro home. I've tried Kubuntu, OpenSUSE (which treats KDE as a first-class citizen), and finally LM KDE. I must say, I'm impressed! A great o...

Re: Just a little puzzler - Broadcom B43

I had this same problem until I installed the proprietary STA driver under the "Additional Drivers" menu option. FWIW, I've been on Ubuntu for the past six years, I've tried OpenSUSE and Fedora, and they've all had a problem with my B43 working right off a fresh install. Earlier comment about it bei...

Re: Google Chrome/Chromium crashes on startup

Same problem here. I'd love to find a solution to this issue. No, changing to FF is not an option--I have to develop to a webkit browser for a work project; the gecko engine is not supported. So please refrain from telling me which browser's better. You may be right, but I still need Chrome to work....

Re: Is Your Internet Slow on Linux Mint ?

Question for you: Are you noticing the lack of speed when you're running off your laptop battery only? Or all the time? The reason I ask is that I had this same problem when running off battery power. I had to do the fix listed here:

Synaptic shows a bunch of unchanged packages

New Mint 10 (64-bit) user. Whenever I install a package from Synaptic and I click "Apply", a dialog opens that shows me the package(s) that will be installed, but it also shows me a ton of packages that will be left unchanged, including some linux kernel packages. There apparently is no way to selec...

Re: Whats this saying?

To remove the mint-fortune stuff without killing gnome, do this:

In a terminal, type:

gksu gedit /etc/bash.bashrc

then enter your root password. In the bashrc file that opens, comment out (with a "#") the line "/usr/games/fortune", and then save.
