Re: Cannot create virtual box VMs

xircon, Your problem sounds the same as the one I had when I was first trying virtualbox. The solution for me was to close Thunderbird so I had no emails coming in, I'm still puzzled as to how receiving an email would cause the creation of a VM to grind to a halt but I guess that is just one of the ...

Re: LMDE a sleeping distro?

We people who installed LMDE because of the "rolling release" advertising, expected certain things that are not getting. We are the dissapointed and we are the ones who asked for some official info here. We care only about the "latest" repos and only about the default options. If we wanted somethin...

Re: LMDE a sleeping distro?

Most LMDE users (both Gnome and Xfce) are very dissapointed by the lack of updates. Viking I believe you missed the point. We are not asking for 20 updates per day. We are just asking for an Update pack every month. We are not getting that. If we wanted 20 updates per day we would be using somethin...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

I can't really understand why anybody would choose LMDE KDE 12 over Mepis 11/12, maybe somebody could sell it to me? The reason will probably be why someone chooses Mepis 11/12 over another KDE distro, simply personal choice. Oh thanks for that, what an informative answer. I like Mint because it is...

Those of you who already use KDE on LMDE, what do you do with the gnome bits that appear in the KDE menus?

rec9140,

I respect your right to your view but will say that a lack of posting by the developers is only evidence that nothing has been posted.

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

I think you are probably right Craig. Sadly it seems that the Mint team cannot be taken at their word, so yes moving to another distro does look like a good move. Very, very poor practice IMHO. If plans have changed it would be decent for the team to let us know. Why are you doom mongering? The KDE...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

Guys,

Can we have some optimism here. LMDE KDE has been announced and until we hear anything from official sources can we please stop doom mongering.

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

Gnome 3 fallback mode (without shell) looks more like Gnome 2, than like Unity. By the way, this topic is about Mint 11 KDE, but we're talking about Gnome and Unity. If LMDE KDE is as unstable and trailing edge as some are saying there will be a lot of defections back to Kubuntu and maybe Ubuntu ba...

Re: Installing Thunderbird 7 from a tarball?

The easiest way is to move the tarball to the same location as the current Thunderbird (probably /opt), right click on the icon and select 'Open With Archive Manager' from the pop up menu and it will overrwrite the old Thunderbird but keep compatible add ons, settings and address book.

Re: help me with Gparted please!!

Hi buxna, You first need to install Windows 7 so put the Windows dvd in the drive and install. Once installed you can alter the partion size from within Windows by using Partition manager, this website will give you instructions on how to do that, http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/resize-...

Make back up ISO

Hi everyone,

I have LMDE installed on my PC alongside Windows (boo!!). I have installed all the latest updates for LMDE which took a couple of hours. Incase I need to do a reinstallation how can I make a new installation CD/DVD that will contain all installed updates and drivers?

Thanks,
Jeff

Re: Thunderbird 5 in LMDE

Hi Simon,

Try doing this.

From Package manager uninstall thunderbird.

Delete all folders you have that have the new thunderbird in it.

Unpack the new thunderbird again. I sent mine to /opt where the old thunderbird was installed, I don't know if that makes any difference or not.

Re: Thunderbird 5 in LMDE

Ok this is very weird now. Every time I opened thunderbird it would open twice so I uninstalled it then did a reinstall and now it wont run again.
