Re: Noisy audio on Linux (sounds like radio)

This is not my fix but it worked for me:
sound fix:
From your terminal, type:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

when the file opens, scroll down until you see a list of "options snd ...."
At the end of the list, add in:
options snd-hda-intel vid=8086 pid=8ca0 snoop=0

Re: Dual boot linux + win7 on same drive

In later versions of Grub the configuration file is located at etc/default/grub. Make sure to run grub-update after editing the file.

Re: Display turns off even though it is set not to

I do it in the startup applications menu. Select Control Panel, Startup Applications, New. On the command line enter

Code: Select all

xset s 0 0
Under name I call it "NoBlank" . It runs everytime Mint starts and the screen stays on forever.

Re: Increase root partition.

Why not make the former Windows partition your new home partition? That way you can upgrade or change the OS without losing your home data.

Re: How do I set my drivers back to default

That is not really an answer. As he stated that the sound was choppy originally before he installed different drivers. As it happens I have the same problem with a new Z97 motherboard and am unable to use sound with Mint at all. I don't think that the sound drivers in Mint have caught up with the ne...

I have the same problem with an ASUS ROG Z97 motherboard. I don't think Mint sound drivers has caught up with HD sound systems yet. Maybe someone has a workaround?

The LinuxMint 17 you are seeing is the live DVD. From there you need to install Mint to your hard drive.

Re: Missing menu in mate

Thank you. I will try that next time it happens. It is very infrequent but annoying. I am using Mint 16 but it has also happened with previous versions.

Missing menu in mate

Every once in a while Mint boots up without the menu in the bottom panel. How do I get it back without rebooting?

Re: {SOLVED} source_dir doesn't exist. Please specify

It seems that Mint 16 uses grub-efi by default. The solution to this problem is to install grub-pc.

Code: Select all

/sudo apt-get install grub-pc

Re: VirtualBox linux guest shared whole disk

I'm no expert, but it looks like you are mixing Windows and Linux in your mount command It should probably be:

Code: Select all

sudo mount -t vboxsf /etc/media/D_DRIVE
Linux does not use drive letters in its paths. Don't know anything about vbox.

Re: source_dir doesn't exist. Please specify --target or --d

Sorry I wasn't very clear. I am booting just fine. I have Mint 15 and Windows. I installed Mint 16 in a new partition, I left grub installing to /dev/sda but it didn't overwrite the grub from Mint 15. From Mint 15 I updated grub so I can boot to 16 whenever I want to but I have to watch the boot to ...

Re: Hard Drive partition for new install

Linux Mint will read a windows drive so your data will be accessable. If your 40 GB SSD is not being used for anything now I would recommend that you create two partitions on it. One for the Mint system and one for your Home data. The easiest way I have found it to boot up the Mint live DVD and use ...
