Re: Its about the "mouse suddenly stops working" syndrome

OK - I cannot take it anymore! I can clearly see that some process is sometimes randomly delaying USB control to the mouse, and that sometimes it seizes up. Plugging in a USB stick leaves it struggling, even after the stick is unplugged. It has to be something to do with only my setup, because there...

Re: Its about the "mouse suddenly stops working" syndrome

OK - I now have more experiences of "Mouse Pause" I have had a complete freeze after inserting a USB stick that seemed to be taking forever. After re-start, all is well, including the USB stick. Chasing this thing is exhausting! I do note that the condition is not widespread. If it were, t...

I would love seeing a full list of your specs. Please run the following command from Terminal and post back the results: inxi -Fxz Hello ClixTrix - thank you for the reply. By all means. Re: Its about the "mouse suddenly stops working" syndrome

"Mouse Freeze" and "Mouse Pause I have now extensively tried all reasonable exercises and strategies with this. These include trying out several different mouse hardware, and types of mouse. Also all obvious combinations of recovery - usually unplug and then re-plug the USB, settling...

Re: Its about the "mouse suddenly stops working" syndrome

I might have fixed it! I am not ready to go for a "[SOLVED}" declaration. I don't really believe it yet, but ... You mess with the Preferences --> Mouse settings. Not the complete fix, but it makes a big difference! Although I now have a Mint 18 (Sarah) installed, I had cause to return to ...

Re: Shutdown and Restart aren't working correctly

Most posts on this topic relate to Cinnamon . I get the hang during shutdown from a Mint 18 Sarah install using Mate . Steam? what is that? I don't think I have it. Systemd? I am sure that is something we cannot live without, and given the description of it's function, is a very likely candidate for...

Re: Its about the "mouse suddenly stops working" syndrome

Please boot from live USB in version 17 and 18 and test the mouse. If mouse works ,we can say that there is a software problem. If live USB Mint does not work, try changing USB port for the mouse. @deepakdeshp - thank you for the reply. The live USB containing Mint 17 was erased, to use to make a l...

Its about the "mouse suddenly stops working" syndrome

I have Linux Mint 17 "Qania" Mate, experiencing the "sudden USB mouse freeze" problem. Previous searched posts involve other freeze-ups (like keyboard also), and none solve it, or were directly relevant. Things I have tried.. 1. It is not the hardware! Replace the mouse with any ...

Audio delay in Mint 18 (compared to Mint 17) ??

This is about two installations, same computer, same 1GB disk drive, each install on it's own ext4 partition. One is Mint 17 (Qiana) and the "new" one is Mint 18 (Sarah). Playing a MP4 clip in VLC media player in Mint 17, the audio seems in sync - or at least close enough not to notice. Ex...

Re: X11 Xorg Display Configuration Mint 17 please help!

Hi Mint folk Now I have to find the way to make the kit boot up automatically on power-up (CMOS power management setting), and skip the user log-in, or make it automatic, Is there one user on your computer? On one of my systems, I have a dual boot with Mint 17 Xfce and Window XP, but the Log-In is a...

Re: X11 Xorg Display Configuration Mint 17 please help!

Hi roblm, PatH57 Quite disturbing to me is that our little thread seems to be the closest most have come to untangling the way video mode is set, and we have only partly exposed it. Probably every distro has it's own varied way of doing things. We have only had a bit of exploring the Mint/Ubuntu way...

Hi roblm and all. This post contains everything I have found out. Darktrax, In your first post you did the first step in trying to create a 1600x1200 resolution using cvt. Did you try the next steps, which are below? xrandr --newmode 1600x1200_60.00 161.00 1600 1712 1880 2160 1200 1203 1207 1245 -hs...

Re: X11 Xorg Display Configuration Mint 17 please help!

Hello again gtsfer Have you tried running the Driver Manager to see if it come up with a "recommended" one or any other choices? (the former is usually a good bet). It might just find a nouveau if you're lucky. If it does you might post a screen shot of it before daring to apply it. Video ...

Re: X11 Xorg Display Configuration Mint 17 please help!

Thanks for reply PatH57 , and for the link. The info on xorg.conf is correct as of X.Org 1.15 as long as you use the default drivers, as soon as a proprietary drivers is used the file will be created by the tool (nvidia or ATI) Not sure if using the intel driver would work better and create the file...

X11 Xorg Display Configuration Mint 17 please help!

When the system (e.g. Mint 17 Qiana Xfce) encounters a monitor with a VGA instead if a DVI connector, and so does not discover the monitor characteristics, then it defaults to a paltry 1024 x 768.. Exhaustive searches on the internet discover plenty of information on the "/etc/xorg.conf" f...

66000+ little Thumbnail files in .cache - fragmentation?

Getting short on space, and looking for where 1.4GB of disk space in my home folder was being used, I find.. ~/.cache/thumbnails/normal - more than 66000 of them! OK - so delete them, but does the space ever get cleaned up to be contiguous ever again? I am not expert at fragmentation, but I don't th...

Re: Installing Mint 14 (32bit Mate) on older machines.

I am becoming disheartened now. This PC will probably have to live with Windows. It has been a very determined attempt, but life is too short to continue trying to make a Mint 32-bit (Mate, Xfce or otherwise) end up on that drive without some hitch or other. The more modern PC has Mint -14 Nadia wit...
