Re: LMDE - Mate Login & Password?

Same problem.

Fixed it using "mint" as username and blank password, then went on to do normal installation. Working well

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

My vote is for MATE. I use MATE for 3 computers. One is a 7 year old IBM Thinkpad. It runs very smoothly with MATE with all the resources as low as possible. The second is a 2 year old ASUS EEE PC 1001P. It slowed to a crawl with Cinnamon (even with minimal options!), but runs nice and fast with MAT...

Re: unable to update mint debian

thank you very much for this, zerozero! It fixed my issue as well. first, a small correction, LMDE doesn't come with lxde (gnome and xfce are the default DE); now your problem: - after updating, with the terminal, with sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade run this sudo dpkg -i --...

[Solved] What is the current URL for the Custom Search?

Wow, that was painfully easy!! Thank you very much! I just right clicked the search box on the http://www.linuxmint.com/start/katya/ page, clicked "Add as search engine". After it is added, I right clicked the URL bar, click "Edit Search Engines", and clicked "make default&q...

Re: What is the current URL for the Custom Search?

In chrome, if you right click the URL bar, you can find "Edit Search Engines." From there you can input things like yahoo, bing, ask.com, etc. I'm hoping someone knows of the specific URL that the Mint team currently has in place. There's a slightly different look in what I currently have ...

[Solved] What is the current URL for the Custom Search?

I want to use my searching powers to help generate as much money for Mint as possible. Whatever the current preferred searching method is for Mint, could someone post that link here so that I can copy it into my search engines for Chrome? I'm currently using the old LM Custom Google Search, updated ...

Good idea!

I have just ordered a Google Chrome hat to replace my broken Firefox hat (sorry Firefox!). I really want a Mint hat to swap it out with, and a nice Mint beanie would be just awesome.

Re: why aren't we observing banners enough?

Yes, sure, but I don't think it is a good idea to just click on those ads if the point is simply to help Mint get some revenue. As a matter of fact, such a strategy may backfire... Have you you guys ever heard about Click fraud? That's why I specifically said If the ads displayed on these pages rem...

I'd like to see Linux Mint caps done by HelloTux apparel.

As the name says, I'd really like to buy a baseball cap, and since HelloTux is Mint's apparel producer and distributor, I'd like to get it through them. I emailed them asking about the possibilities of making a hat, and they told me that everything they do comes from what Mint tell them make. So, is...

Re: how do I add in the custom LM google search?

For anyone else wanting to do this, here's how: (1) Right click the URL bar and click "Edit Search Engines. (2) At the bottom where it has a blank text box saying "Add new search engine", put whatever (I put LM Google Search), google for keyword, and this for the URL: http://www.googl...

why aren't we observing banners enough?

I'm posting this here since I feel this needs to be seen by many people. It isn't truly a newbie question, but a question to the entire Mint community. from http://blog.linuxmint.com/ News and summary: This is the busiest period of the year, and with no advertising income generated this month we’re ...

Re: how do I add in the custom LM google search?

I know that I could go to linuxmint.com/start/Katya/ but I really don't feel like having that as my start page (although I do have it bookmarked for the purposes of searching) http://www.linuxmint.com/start/katya/ Thanks for the reply though! [solved] how do I add in the custom LM google search?

In both firefox and chrome (or chromium), I'd like to know how to add back in the Linux Mint Custom Google Search. I know that in Chromium, I right click the URL bar, go to "Edit Search Engines", but I'm not sure what to put it after that. I can't find any plugin for Firefox, either. I kno...

bad resolution after windows update

I am dual booting Windows Vista and Linux Mint 10. I did nothing different to Linux Mint, not even an update before this incident. I shut down Mint. Started up Vista. Updated. Reset, updated, reset, up until Vista, the antivirus and all that jazz are happy [note: if it matters, one of the updates wa...

RAM upgrade for an older computer

Problem 1: The computer, a friends computer, is sorely in need of RAM. It has 512 megs, 2.2 Ghz processor. The RAM is DD2 2300 or whatever between 21 and 2700. I have an old stick of ram, 1 gig at 2100. I am understanding that this ram stick will slow the computer down to 2100, but give it a ram upg...

Re: Installing an important part of Ubuntu Netbook Remix

Top right of the keyboard, you should have a "Print Screen" or "Prt Scrn" button. press it. It should pop up a 'screenshot' message where you can save it. And yours didn't come with any stickers? No serial number or model number on the underside of the computer? are you sure you ...
