Thanks everyone for the answers. I think I found the problem. It seems that bumblebeed is not starting at boot with Linux Mint 14 Nadia.
I had to add runlevel [2345] to start on in /etc/init/bumblebeed.conf and now bumblebeed is running and the fan slows down and the laptop is much quieter.

Re: Fan doesn't slow down after temp is low enough
Thanks, but cpu frequency controling is already activated and working fine with cpufrequtils (which sets the "ondemand" governor by default). But the fan still keeps spinning. There should be some thresholds for the fans based on the temperature in the kernel; and maybe they're somehow wro...

Re: Fan doesn't slow down after temp is low enough
There is no such setting in the BIOS for this machine. I'm guessing that there are some settings in the kernel for these things, but which ones, or where to start looking? Any pointers would be welcome.

[SOLVED] Fan doesn't slow down after temp is low enough
Hi. I'm using Linux Mint 14 on an Asus u36s laptop with all up-to date updates. I noticed that when the fan starts spinning, it doesn't slow down anymore after the temperature on the CPU drops to acceptable values (currently. the sensors command shows +53.0°C on the CPU and the fan is spinning like ...

How to disable workspace switching animation?
Hello. How can I disable the animation that happens in Cinnamon 1.6 (on Mint Linux 14 Nadia) when changing workspaces? It's very distracting.

[Solved] Disable workspace switching with the mouse
Hi. I'm not fond of the workspace switching that happens in Cinnamon when I move the mouse to the right/left sides of the screen. How can I disable this? I already disabled the hot corner, but it seems it's not enough.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 12 Mar
Right... well, I guess I'll have to wait for kernel 3.3 then?
Or do you know how I can downgrade to the previous version?

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 12 Mar
Today's update to the linux-image-3.2.0-2-686-pae package (changelog.Debian.gz says kernel version 3.2.12-1) brought the CPU temperature on my laptop (HP ProBok 4515s, CPU: AMD Turion RM-76) up around 4℃ in idle (before it was 54℃, now it's 59-60℃). This causes the CPU Fan to spin continuously at a ...

It isn't for anybody. It's just a warning, in case anybody else has issues with this package.

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 10 Fev
This got posted in the wrong thread; I posted it in the Sid thread, but I should have posted it in here, in the testing thread. So here it is: After today's kernel update to 3.2, I got the error: Examining /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d. run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/dkms 3.2.0-1...

After the Pidgin update to v. 2.10.0, I too can't connect and it says "Waiting for network connection". If I disable and then re-enable the accounts they connect. You can run pidgin with the --force parameter and it will connect fine. There's also Debian bug #642117 reported about this iss...

How to change the first day of week in GNOME Calendar
Hi. I live in Europe, and the first day of week here is Monday, not Sunday. I'm using the locale en_US.utf8, so the calendar in GNOME shows Sunday as the first day of week, but I want it to show Monday as the first day of week. I prefer to keep using this locale for compatibility with various applic...
